Well I was referring to more local candidates during the primary, who aren't necessarily quite as mouth-frothy as the Presidential ones.

I wouldn't vote for any of them personally — even if they might individually be moderate I still think their voices will be dwarfed by the rest who aren't — but that doesn't change the fact that a troubling number of LGBT people who had previously voted for Obama in 2008 are putting their money and votes elsewhere because they're upset with his utterly lacklustre support of us since then.

Every time I see Romney speaking to a group of people he always seems to look like a guy backed into a corner trying to get out of some group ass whooping.

Sadly, Joshua, I think openly and strongly supporting gay rights is still too politically risky for national politicians. Had Obama been more vocal and assertive on the subject, it would only have given his detractors (including some Democrats) one more brick to throw at him this November.

I'd rather have him in the White House than the people who want to amend the Constitution to prohibit gay marriage.

The time is rapidly approaching, though. I don't think anything can hold back the logic and compassion of equal marriage rights. It's coming.

I hold more against Obama for not prosecuting the big banks and the former Bush administration than I do for his half-hearted same sex marriage policies.

That doesn't make any sense though because Obama-the-Candidate was much more vocally supportive of gay rights prior to the election than he was the moment he took office.

I'm not talking about simply breaking promises, though there was much of that. He refused to really do anything at all. It took Nancy Pelosi busting her ass to even get a half-hearted compromise that finally got Don't Ask, Don't Tell repealed, and throughout the entire process Obama didn't even bother to get involved — the day of a crucial vote the first time around instead of Obama calling senators and pushing them to vote for one of the core pieces of action he promised to handle in his first term, he called up a college basketball team and congratulated them on winning a game.

I could buy being afraid if he had avoided the subject completely, but he didn't. He made promises during his campaign to support various pieces of LGBT legislation, and as soon as he took office he simply dropped the ball. Again, it's not a matter of our issues being ignored — they're ignored every time and we're used to it. It's a matter of specific promises he made to the LGBT community (who, quite frankly, were instrumental in getting him elected in the first place) that didn't get accomplished or only made it through because of the work of other senators. I think that it's short-sighted to switch donations and votes to the other party to "send a message," but I certainly understand why people who supported Obama because of the platform policies he said he stood for are upset.

Do you think Obama doesn't know that he already has your vote? Obama knows that you will under no circumstances vote for people you've been brainwashed into thinking hate you.

The gay lobby has bought into the "evil Republicans" ideology and sold it to their followers on the basis of empty promises. Now they have to reap the rewards of selling themselves to the Democrats.

Rule #1 in politics - there is no payoff if you aren't in play.

I work for Republicans (and with Democrats) in government. If you know how to play ball, you can do so even on an opponent's field, Joshua

I'm not surprised that you completely missed the reference.

Anyway showing up to participate in protests outside of Planned Parenthoods isn't really working for Republicans in government.

Oh you were talking about yourself... for some reason I had the idea you were in Virginia. Now I'm reading you with an accent. It's super annoying.

I haven't protested outside Planned Parenthood, although I have stopped by to pray with them during lunch on occasion. I strongly support them.

You see how well the strategy has worked out for them. They are taken for granted and will be as long as they remain owned by the Dems.

The best description I've heard for Romney — which came from a Republican strategist, mind you — is silly putty. Romney will be whatever you want him to be. You smoosh him against some forced-birth, anti-choice group and, fuck yeah! he'll outlaw abortions y'all! You smoosh him against a gun control lobby and he's all concerned about proliferation of firearms to people who shouldn't have access to them. Smoosh him against gay rights groups and he'll be a better advocate for gay rights than Ted Kennedy!

In short, while I think it highly unlikely that anyone else is going to get the nomination, I'm not really worried about Romney. Romney has no principled position on anything at all besides really, really wanting to be president.
