Look at Perph feeling all superior to those (allegedly) lower on economic chain. Yup, fits completely.

Thumper, were you sleeping in that bible study about "pride" and "fall"?

Oh...and you all didnt start it with me? I am growing tired of being nice to people who accuse me of everything under the sun, and reply to every post of mine with personal sttacks about my faith, my name, and even my gender. Any personal attacks I make are months overdue.

Now if you will excuse me, I have to spend more than your weekly paycheck to get my car washed. How's that, Minimum Wage Brain?

So very Christ-like of you, Perph. I'm sure he's very very proud of you.

You should really think about taking another long time-out.

(btw, rain and snow is forecast in the Staten Island area tomorrow. Waste not, want not.)

Frankly, Jacqueline, I am a little bit exasperated. Sooner or later, one runs out of cheeks. Personally, I have four, max.

It's so cute when you try to make a coherent argument.

Maybe not original... but I know a whiny, pretentious bitch when I see one
There is nothing pretentious about my points. I am willing to defend them in depth and at length. If you are capable of providing actual evidence to support your positions, then I will weigh that in with my current understanding. If that evidence is credible and contradicts any of my underlying assumptions, I'll take that into account.

I can't say the same for you though.

But of course, that all depends on what one wants to give to and get from a forum thread. You want communication and give-and-take and perhaps learn and perhaps teach something, then the above is required.

Largely agree. Additionally there is no requirement to play any particular game anyone may wish to impose on you. Questions go unanswered in forums all the time.

I suggest that I am allowed to post or not post on topics as I wish. Until a rule about having to answer every question and / or post on every topic is enacted I will happily retain my option to post or not to post as I alone decide. If I want to talk about religion, pizza, SL, etc. I (and I alone) will decide when and where, and I will decide what I share or do not share.

I have already responded to tracer's question that has his panties in a twist. Perhaps you missed it? I have so little interest in what Rush, Beck, etc. have specifically said or not said I am not going to expend any energy to play a game. I am not going to try to think of what I have heard those individuals actually say and list what I disagree with. That was made crystal clear many pages back.

The extensive back and forth since then is just typical forum stupidity I usually try to avoid. Sue me for playing along this time

Look, I'm not putting a gun to your head. It's your choice whether you want to support your arguments with evidence and logic and respond to points as they are asked or whether you go around whining half the time and chortling the other. I can't take that right away from you.

I CAN however state with certainty that your unsupported arguments are unsupported and your evasive responses are merely evasion. It's up to you whether you want to have a proper debate, but don't expect to win any argument without sufficient evidence and/or logic.

No you haven't. You don't even know what my question was. (it wasn't whether you listened to Beck/Limbaugh. It was whether you don't lean to the political right on any issues)

So, in other words you haven't answered the question because you don't want to think of any positions you disagree with. It's amazing how you can make two mutually exclusive statements *high five*

The extensive back and forth is me not letting you get away with your attempt to gaslight the discussion. It's a simple question that anyone should be able to answer. What issues do you lean left on. Any?

Personally, I'm a big 2nd amendment advocate and don't mind concealed carry. I also believe we shouldn't be the world's police-man, which used to be a conservative point of view, but got discarded under Dubya.

However, let it be noted for the record that most people posting in PR&S are here to exchange opinions and (yes) even to debate and disagree at times on topics of current interest.

You not only haven't answered questions, you don't even seem to be here to add your own opinion. The sense I get is that you either feel you're "above it all" and just want to make sure we know that (insert derisive chuckle), or else you're afraid someone will disagree and present you with logical counter-arguments. Or maybe both.

Look, the story of my life has been a steady and dramatic change in philosophy. I was raised a conservative Protestant and voted Republican more times than I care to admit.

But things happened to change my opinion. The GOP went nutfuck insane (at least in my opinion). World events told me that the conservative view was rarely ever accurate. I did fact checks on more Hannity stories than I care to admit, and every single time I discovered that he was putting half-truths and outright lies out on the airwaves trying to score propaganda points. Then Bush happened

But perhaps the biggest motivator for change for me was exchanging opinions here, the old SC, and on other boards. Sure, I got flamed a few times but it was the cogent, reasonable arguments that turned my head. I did the same fact checking on those as I did on Hannity and guess what? They were right far more than they were wrong.

So I'm saying that a back-and-forth can be useful whether you change your mind or not. Intelligent discussion can be informative for anyone. Childish smirking and taunting don't change anyone's mind or even convince anyone else of your intelligence.

If you're not here to discuss issues and give us YOUR side of the story, then I have to ask: What the hell is the point?

I think we have a solution to this.
We will wait for you to find and list the "arguments" I have made in this thread (prior to your tampon ignition question in post 81) that I did not explain.
Promise not to come back until you have them.

buh bye tracer, the forum will miss you.

Right there with you on that. I've stated this before, but I worked on Bob Dole's, Jim Talent (one of the sponsors of welfare reform), and Kit Bond's (FFS) campaigns. I was the youngest member of a decently large Young Republicans group for over a year and I was a political conservative since the age of 14.

My conversion has been gradual and due to exhaustive analysis of many issues. There were also a few key teachers that opened my eyes to things I was previously unaware of in regard to the civil rights movement, the great depression, economics and a few other issues.

My question was an extension from a previous thread where you stated you weren't on the other team. You know this and anybody who's been paying attention to what I've been saying knows it.

If you don't want to defend your statement that you aren't in lock-step with the right on the vast majority of political issues, then that's your call. Just don't expect anyone to believe you.

And the funny part is that they think that they're trolling us by constantly making asinine statements with absolutely no support. Cause making right-wingers look like dumb assholes is somehow coming out ahead.

It's like reverse trolling. Instead of trolling to make other people look stupid, they troll to make themself look stupid. It's emo masochistic trolling.

This is pretty straight forward simple stuff to me;
I read the threads and posts I wish to read.
I discuss topics I wish to discuss.
I have no interest in posting in every thread and feel no need to "share" my thoughts or opinions on any particular topic whether I agree or disagree.

I usually ignore most of the silliness that seems to evolve in threads, although in this one I obviously decided to participate

My think emotes are little more that the laughs, hugs, etc. that are built into the forum system. If emotes are childish, then so are those built into the system. /me shrugs

I believe I understand, but I think you are missing an important point.

Of course there are no rules that compel you to post, or not post, etc. You can do nothing but lurk or you can post nothing but LOLOCats and word salad if that is your wish. There are only a few rules about what you can't post, which could result in a ban, but those are few and relatively easy to follow.

But what I wrote above was about something else - participation inn a group and respecting its norms. I wrote that if one wants to be understood, one does everything they can to communicate their thoughts fully and clearly. That's one norm, and it isn't just here, it is anywhere people congregate and talk. It is a common norm of human interaction and it applies here as it does anywhere.

That's just one, but I won't belabor the point and will simply say that when someone purposely ignores or attacks those norms, they are not communicating their point clearly, but they are communicating something else very clearly - that they want to use the rest of their group for their own amusement.

No matter how vehemently people disagree, no matter how heated the arguments get, as long as everyone feels that the goal is to communicate (which comes from the Latin root for "to share"), then no one feels used, everyone still feels like they are a willing and respected participant.

But when someone makes statements that are not clear, offers derisive comments or other non-verbal clues that they see the group or its members through a lens of derision - and then especially when they seem to be taking pleasure in the others' consternation, they are quite clearly saying that they are using the group and its members for their own amusement.

As I'm sure you will agree, people don't like to feel used. They will often try to retaliate in some way. In a bar, that can mean fisticuffs. In a forum it means verbal insults.

But for someone to then pretend that the insults sent their way are undeserved, when they made it clear they were just using you to begin with, is really quite disingenuous.

It's also pretty vile.
