Prenatal screening = eugenics

I'd start a new thread for this, but Mr Frothynuts threatens to take over PR&S with his headline-worthy spittle.

Santorum challenges policy on prenatal testing - CNN.com

Quote:
The government shouldn't make health care providers fully cover prenatal tests like amniocentesis, which can determine the possibility of Down syndrome or other fetal problems, Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum said Sunday.

Santorum, an outspoken opponent of abortion rights, told the CBS News program "Face the Nation" on Sunday that amniocentesis "more often than not" results in abortion.

"People have the right to do it, but to have the government force people to provide it free, to me, is a bit loaded," he said.
Quote:
"One of the mandates is they require free prenatal testing in every insurance policy in America," Santorum, a conservative Roman Catholic, told a Christian Alliance luncheon in Columbus. "Why? Because it saves money in health care. Why? Because free prenatal testing ends up in more abortions and therefore less care that has to be done, because we cull the ranks of the disabled in our society."
This is the sort of mindless, hackneyed jingoism our country would have to look forward to if this yo-yo actually manages to win the election. On the plus side, he's very quickly alienating middle-class suburban women.

Ok I sort of understand some person being concerned about unnecessary abortions. But what I never hear these guys talking about is the quality of life after birth. What about the people that have already been born? What is the message we are sending them?

They talk about quality of life after birth all the time. Primarily: no health care, more corporate control, no unionizing, less education, more imprisonment, more death penalties, and constant monitoring and control.

Same story stated a tad differently: Santorum says Obama agenda not "based on Bible" - Yahoo! News
I think he objects to America in general.

Increasingly it seems that when I see someone making sweeping generalizations concerning society and reality in general that are based exclusively on the particular moral convictions of that person's faith based belief system,...it just seems like they are committing a form of public masterbation.

What War on Religion?

Quote:
...all the outrage about religious freedom has overshadowed a basic truth about the Obama administration: When it comes to religious organizations and their treatment by the federal government, the Obama administration has been extremely generous. Religious groups have benefited handsomely from Obama's stimulus package, budgets, and other policies. Under Obama, Catholic religious charities alone have received more than $650 million, according to a spokeswoman from the US Department of Health and Human Services, where much of the funding comes from. The USCCB, which has been such a vocal critic of the Obama administration, has seen its share of federal grants from HHS jump from $71.8 million in the last three years of the Bush administration to $81.2 million during the first three years of Obama. In fiscal 2011 alone, the group received a record $31.4 million from the administration it believes is virulently anti-Catholic, according to HHS data.

Will whoever still calls the shots in the GOP allow the party to nominate this walking landslide of Goldwaterian proportions?

I really doubt it. This year's R convention will be must-see TV.

Im real tired of the phrase "unnecessary abortions".

ALL abortions are necessary to *someone*, usually the person *getting it in the first damned place*.

The convention organizers have called for thousands of republican supporter volunteers (thugs) to make sure the expected storm of protestors can't mar the convention. Yes it should be an exciting week or so in Tampa.

It's not the thugs or protestors, but rather the would-be nominees still standing and their delegates themselves that's going to make this interesting

I think it might be worthwhile to make this a general Shit Santorum Says forum just to consolidate the inanity all in one place.

My contribution is this op-ed highlighting him as a Perpetual Godwin Machine.

Quote:
In explaining why his remark over the weekend wasn’t linking Obama to Hitler, Santorum said that “the World War II metaphor is one I’ve used a hundred times.” This is not an exaggeration — and that’s Santorum’s problem.

Someone needs to send this guy a belt buckle with "Gott Mit Uns" on it, I am sure someone can find one in a collection of SS memorabilia.
