I really dislike the TSA so I'm always happy to highlight its many shows of stupidity and incompetence, but I'm finding it hard this time. I'd probably try to take your red velvet cupcake too.

There you see how totally idiotic the combination of irrational paranoia, and mindless obedience (in certain circles they call that behavior "being a doormat") can become.

Just get rid of the TSA entirely, then at least the most visible part of all this stupidity will be gone.

What has ALWAYS cracked me up about this rule is that they seem never to realize that two three ounce containers can actually equal more than three ounces - and that there's no limit on how many of them you can bring on board.

They're saying the same thing about pies, too... which actually makes a little more sense, with respect to the filling.

I don't get it though... I wouldn't have tried to travel with baked goods like that BEFORE 9/11. Odds are you'll step on them (under the seat in front of you) or get them crushed in the overhead (when someone stuffs a too-big-for-compartment carry-on into it). Just bake when you get there - the holidays are SUPPOSED to be a frantic whirlwind of cooking and baking! It takes all the fun out of it if you bake BEFORE you travel!

People will often buy specialty foods when they travel that they can't get at home. I've bought and traveled with jams, chocolates, wines, maple products, fudge, and teas. But that was in a pre-9/11 world. I don't enjoy flying anymore the way I used to.

Yeah but it gets kind of obvious if, in the middle of the flight, you start mixing together 5 containers of "food preservative", one container of "saffron", and one 2/3 full of "cocoa powder"...

And rather pointless when there are lots easier targets than airplanes. A car bomb & any busy multiplex theater on a Friday night, for example.
