I stumbled on this today while researching my own state (Kansas) drinking laws for minors under the age of 21 (you know them - they can vote but they're too young to drink?).

This caught my eye:

So I started looking at the other states, and was stunned to discover that Kansas isn't all that unusual:

Look at the chart. All those green checks! Homosexual couples are forbidden from practicing some acts that heterosexual unmarried couples are allowed to perform in Arkansas, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Montana, Tennessee and Texas.

I realize that some folks out there think sex laws are defending our "social morality", but personally I think that's just nonsense. Those same people aren't even blinking at the number of bank CEOs who committed fraud and were never prosecuted after the big bank bailouts. Or at the widespread political corruption in this country. Yes, it's all about sex. Who you screw is more important than who Congress screws?

And in Georgia, even oral sex is covered by sodomy laws.

These people literally don't see the difference between a mouth and an arsehole.

Sodomy was a lot more fun when it was illegal.

It used to be that anything but the "missionary position" was considered to be sodomy in most states - and married couples got arrested, too

Homosexuality used to be illegal throughout the entire Western World, but most countries abandoned their anti-'sodomy' laws in the 1960's or 70's.

They're not enforceable due to Lawrence Vs Texas. They may still be on the books, but you can't actually be charged for it. If they try to, you can challenge it and get it thrown out.

Still sucks that anyone would even have to challenge it, though.

Although, I did once hear of someone actually being arrested because they had sex with someone in a hotel after a fur con or something (hetero) and they were arrested for having sex whilst not being married. O.o

Technically, sodomy IS anything other than heterosexual missionary position, so anyone who says they're anti-sodomy is either a hypocrite or has a very, very boring sex life.

Anyway, it wasn't all that long ago, well decades but still, that homosexuality was considered a mental illness, so that they still have such laws on the books hardly surprises me.

Well most definitions consider it anything other than penis to vagina sex, IE anal or oral = sodomy, but it can also mean anything meant to gain pleasure rather than simply make babies...it's all very stupid no matter how you define it anyways.

Oral definitively fits under the definition of sodomy so that means anyone who declares sodomy a sin but then goes and gets a blow job from their wife is just as bad as gay people.

about as bad as two cases I'm aware of... one tagged for having sex in the 16/17 dynamic (voluntary, initiated by the 16yo, parents pressed charges), and another of a computer illiterate grandmother prosecuted for possesion of child porn (which the prosecutor demonstrated was part of a trojan installed back door server)... the laws in some places are so wide it's concievable that telling a dirty joke where a child could theoretically hear it (whether they are persent or not) could get you tagged... all of course making monitoring almost completely useless.

The state of Georgia would have to do a lot more to right this kind of wrong. Being taken off the sex offender registry can't make up for being treated and discriminated against as one of the worst kinds of criminal for more than a decade.

Being on a sex offender registry generally tells you nothing, the person could be on it because they're a paedophile, then again they could be on it because at 17 they consensually had sex with a 15 yr old, talk about a fucking huge difference. So people end up guessing what said person has done and usually guess they are closer to the former rather than the latter, don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating for it to be done away with all together but if they insist on putting the latter type of person on one perhaps they should have 2 different types, then again they'd be people saying that would give too much info about what the person on the list did even though it wont specially say what they did.

I'm also not advocating that a 17 year old having sex consensually with a 15 year old should be enough to get anybody on a sex offenders list but I was suggesting a compromise if they insist on putting them on it anway. I'm not talking about changing the law or age of consent but for me it doesn't seem enough to justify people being put on such a list.

The supreme court struck down anti-consensual-sodomy laws in the 1990's. People in Virginia actually got released from prison when it happened.

I remember when I was at the women's prison one of my inmates coming running up to me and saying, "Miss Gearbox, did you know oral sex is against the law in Virginia?" I was like, "Well, yeah, it's considered sodomy." She said, "I'm moving to another state when I get out!" I just hooted with laughter when she said that, and then assured her that unless she was doing it in public who was going to know?
