Just out of curiuosity, what do we all think of McCain/Fiengold vis a vis the 1st Ammendment?

As I understand it, by this law I cannot place an ad in the local paper within a certain time window of a national general election. It's supposed to stop special interests from running campaign ads on behalf of candidates, but if I am following it correctly it applies to everyone regardless of intent.

So basically if I want to shell out the money to make an add reading "I'm voting for McCain on Tuesday, you should too", I'm legally restricted from this.

No bias or partisanness intended, just curiousity as to other's takes on it.

Meh, I am not passionate one way or the other with this issue. As long as everyone plays by the same set of rules I am OK with it.
