Prop 8 - Immediate Marriage Ruling today

Judge is going to rule on whether to allow same sex marriages to resume in California immediately or to stay his previous findings until appeal is filed and brought to court.

He's supposed to have his ruling by noon SLT.

I figured I'd start this thread now so later we can either be furious or talk about others who are furious, depending on the ruling.

It's morally wrong to love another human being?

I honestly do NOT get some of the anti-SSM rhetoric. They keep falling back on moral arguments and "values" but there doesn't appear to be a shred of logic behind any of the statements I've seen.

Mostly it seems to translate to homophobia, pure and simple.

As I said in another Prop 8-related thread, they should at least be honest and simply quote Leviticus and Deuteronomy in "justifying" their homophobia(but that would slap them in the face with separation of church and state). The whole "the vote should count" argument is really the same one used by those who opposed interracial marriage and those who voted for discriminating against blacks on owning a home in the 60s. It's bogus and I hope Judge Walker pushes his ruling into effect immediately.

Oh, and there's no audio on the CNN Live stream. That sucks.

I think they meant "Judge Mocks Dog", because they argue that this will lead to people marrying their pets.

Rumors on Twitter say the ban was lifted. Waiting for confirmation, though. Oh, and there's now audio on the CNN stream!
Update: It's pretty much confirmed. Gay marriage now officially legal in California.

As Ted Olsen pointed out in his essay in Newsweek back in January, there are no valid legal arguments. "Logic" has nothing to do with it.

Opponents are, at best, frightened and confused by things they don't like and/or understand, or are homophobes, pure and simple. They are using religion to justify their own fears or hatreds.

while we wait to read what happened, here's a free image to think about: how great would it be if the judge slid out the building with a beer in his hand?

My boss just asked me to marry him!

Unfortunately we're both already married and are heterosexual, but I appreciated him trying. I let him down easy with a "no, I don't like your hair".

Looks like they were right. Gay marriage will lead to an ever increasing concern over how our hair looks.

Yes, the general stay was denied by Walker, but he extended the temporary stay until the 18th of August so that the proponents of Prop 8 can have a chance to appeal to the 9th District Court of Appeals. So unless a higher court steps in and says, "Stop!" - which is a huge "unless" - same-sex marriages in CA can resume August 18. I wouldn't rent a big expensive hall or anything...

Judge keeps gay marriages in California on hold
Judge keeps gay marriages in California on hold - Yahoo! News

Judge Vaughn Walker gave opponents of same-sex weddings until Aug. 18 at 5 p.m. to get a ruling from the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on whether gay marriage should resume. Gay marriages could happen at that point or be put off indefinitely depending on how the court rules.
