The group also announced that Rep. Michele Bachmann will be speaking at the gathering as well. The Minnesota Republican has become a hero among many in the conservative movement. A representative for Bachmann confirms her speaking role.

The event could focus the political spotlight on both women. Bachmann has become a rising star, her ascent fueled in part by major support from Tea Party activists. For Palin - currently taking a brief Thanksgiving break from a national tour for her new book, "Going Rogue: An American Life" - serving as headliner at a tea party convention could increase speculation that she is weighing a run for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination.

Hmmm, I went to Tea Party Nation's site and you can't read anything - not even their FAQ - unless you sign up and log in. The first page is, of course, already replete with anti-Obama pics and ZOMG! forum headlines like "Obama orders 1 million US troops to prepare for civil war!"

I'm thinking the cusp of Paxton's Phase 2 - rooting.

I went to the Tea Party Nation's site also, but I couldn't bring myself to register to read more, even for the laughs. I am tempted, however, by the delicious possibilities of posting on its forums.

I think - in order to qualify as a "movement" - you have to have a direction.

Sarah Palin's opportunism hardly qualifies as an organized book tour, much less any form of "campaign".

That video is frightening. I'm happy to say I work for one of the biggest physical bookstores in the world (Powell's Books in Portland, OR) and we have only purchased a few dozen copies of her book if that.

[edited to add] More than I thought, still not so many. 37 in stock at the main store. Another 31 at the other stores. And another 100 available for shipping on the web. As opposed to the 5000+ Harry Potter books we bought for the main store when a new one came out.
