Senator pushes amendment to censor legalization recommendation

Drug Legalization: Senator Pushes Amendment to Censor Any Talk of That | Stop the Drug War (DRCNet)

Quote:
The Commission shall have no authority to make findings related to current Federal, State, and local criminal justice policies and practices or reform recommendations that involve, support, or otherwise discuss the decriminalization of any offense under the Controlled Substances Act or the legalization of any controlled substance listed under the Controlled Substances Act.
So yeah, go study that drug war problem... but we don't want to hear about it if you think legalization is the solution.

The U.S. War on drugs has been one of the longest running issues of denial that America has. Like we were sooo wrong for sooo long that despite all evidence to the contrary we must continue this program in order to avoid the appearance of actually being wrong.
And to avoid the acceptance of the facts that this War has cost american taxpayers billions of dollars and destroyed countless lives for no apparent benefit for nearly 40 years.

The fact that this Grassley guy wants to stifle open debate on the subject seems like a distinctly unamerican move in terms of priniciples. In addition the era of innocence / ignorance regarding drugs has been over for decades. Which leaves a very poor taste in the mouths of people expecting government to be rational. The hyprocracy that the drug war represents is steeped in decades of statistics showing just how futile it has been. Or like the obvious hypocracy and irrationality of a falling down drunk, in the process of claiming they do not do drugs.

Especially in the case of marijuana, kids see right through these smoke screens.
And as long as the government represents this issue with the same old lies despite evidence to the contrary respect for these policies will only be held by the ignorant.

And for young people as long as its illegal it will stay "cool" to do it.

It's OK, I'm sure in 5 years he'll have changed 180 degrees and be campaigning for legalization.
