Damn Literalists !

Jesus the "man", was a guy who walked around teaching ideas and telling stories. Jesus the "Christ" is a theological construct, somewhat like the difference between Buddha and Buddha "nature". Jesus the "Christ" serves as a symbol of rebirth and transformation. Yes, the actual person was (probably) male, however, "The Christ", can be perceived as male, female, LGBT, white, Asian, black, ... etc. Many individuals need a concrete image to connect to the infinite, however, it is the "infinite" that is important , the image is just a tool.

The protesters should be thrilled that the playwright cares enough about the "Christ" to bother writing what seems to be a play about transformation and rebirth. The believers should be welcoming the trans community to their churches - (my guess is that Jesus would )

But they are literalists; and are missing and misunderstanding the essential "truths" of their own religion.

The UK has a shiny new anti-blasphemy law. Wonder if some of these protesters will think to use it.

/fixed

Considering the Scottish Crown Office decided there was no case against Jerry Springer, The Opera I doubt they would in this case.

Agreed. This is why I like to imagine *MY* Jesus as a fair skinned European rather than this:
