Yesterday Gordon Brown issued a statement which recognises the appalling way Alan Turing was treated for being gay,and states that he deserved so much better.

The statement came in response to a petition posted on the Number 10 website.

Quite rightly the apology , whilst focusing on the treatment meted out to Turing, goes further and covers the many others who were convicted under homophobic laws.

Alan Turing was a hero, and not just for the UK. The way he was treated was utterly disgraceful.
