Texas to resist health care reform?

I noticed this article while checking out the news this morning.

Perry raises possibility of states' rights showdown with White House over healthcare | Top Stories | Star-Telegram.com

Quote:
Gov. Rick Perry, raising the specter of a showdown with the Obama administration, suggested Thursday that he would consider invoking states’ rights protections under the 10th Amendment to resist the president’s healthcare plan, which he said would be "disastrous" for Texas.

He's going down a dangerous road if he does this...

Hmm... I wonder if it is because Perry is the Republican lieutenant governor for and successor to George W. Bush who is running for re-election and thinks that negroes shouldn't be president, or is it for the good of the state?

(yes, I know the derogatory interpretation of the word "negro" and its archaism when applied to people with greater melanin production; I used it intentionally, speaking not for myself but for those who still give a damn about such archaic star-bellied distinctions)

I guess in his universe, Texans never get sick, especially the poor ones.

Rachel Maddow and Jon Stewart need to make a baby. That child could potentially save this country.

You know, Rachel Maddow gets to me on so many levels.

If she's ever single, please send me an email to let me know.

You'll take our crappy health care system from us when you pry it from our cold, dead fingers!

Really, from claiming state's rights for the segregation issue to health care in a generation? Are they running out of secession threats?

There was a lot to be said for the role of "clowns" in progressive reformation in the 1960s and 1970s. Starting with perhaps Lenny Bruce whence George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Hunter Thompson, Robert Altman, Stanley Kubrik, and other social commentators, the national agenda was shifted. And these folks were merely artists who are allowed to do things that others usually aren't. I don't know the details, but Charlie Chaplin's 1940 The Great Dictator may well have helped move the US into World War II through his unavoidable satire of the "axis of evil".

Stewart is certainly a comedian, but one with something to say and one who gets listened to daily. Maddow doesn't play as much the clown, but sarcasm is a big part of her toolbox. I do hope this is a bellwether of a culture that is getting ready to snap. That said, folks who were cognizant during the early 1970s upheaval have told me it was a frightening time.
