It stunted his growth

Did not mean to start a war against smokers. Was pointing out the prejudice in those that think being fat is because one is "doing it to themselves"

Discovery Health channel is running a bunch of shows today on the topic of being big. The show on now is showing how genetics can be related to obesity. Just figured I'd share that since they are talking about a few things that were discussed in this thread.

Looking up flights to Las Vegas from here, I could buy one first class ticket for $686.11 or two coach class tickets for $704.80. Not a huge difference, but at least the extra leg room in First Class would make up for it. Also, the difference between flying first class on Delta vs. flying first class on United? $900 MORE to fly United.

End of thread.

It did for me when I smoked. It nearly killed me, in fact-I was seriously underweight for my height, and having ulcerative colitis doubled the trouble. It was so bad I had to go to the bathroom every time I had something to drink. Everything ran through me. I quit cold turkey, and never really had any cravings to begin with. Needless to say, nearly dropping dead on your mother's birthday from complications from UC and having to have 7 units of blood pumped into you will definitely bring about a change. I still have to deal with the consequences-I almost can't eat vegetables because too much fiber intake harms my colon, plus I have a 10-inch long series of blood clots that runs from my left thigh to my left kidney that I never knew about until after the transfusion.

There are probably several, but one that is often suggested is that nicotine inhibits insulin release from the pancreas.

From purely personal experience, I wonder also if there is something more going on with brain chemistry. When I gave up smoking, I just couldn't stop eating. I still struggle now - I have to work really hard to avoid putting on weight (I run 3-5 miles 5-6 times a week, and strength train 3 times a week). I never had that problem when I smoked. So I wonder, based on nothing but my own experience, if the 'reward' chemistry (dopamine, etc) brought on by smoking (or feeding any addiction) is very similar - and possible intertwined with - the 'reward' chemistry of eating, so that satisfying one need suppresses the need for the other.

There is bound to be lots of stuff going on. There are hundreds of chemicals in cigarettes - it's going to be almost impossible to understand how such a huge cocktail of chemicals affects us. Studying each one in isolation would be a task in itself, but add them all together, and well, I doubt it's something we would be able to study in the near future, anyhoo.

I think the way several posters in this thread who've simply stated their honest (and in my opinion, true as often as not) opinions, is pretty deplorable. I happen to agree that a great many seriously overweight people in this country could do something about it if they wanted to. How saying that equates to "You people in this thread specifically are lazy!" is quite beyond me. I'm sorry this topic strikes a nerve for some people, and I understand why that is, but that doesn't justify all the lashing out at people who haven't added any vitriol or ad hominem to the thread.

Never helped me with weight because smoking just makes my stomach more acidic than it already is, lol.

Yes, I have issues.

Yeah as I said, if you have any problem with your stomach smoking just makes it worse.

Oh save it.

They knew who their audience was. None of them is new around here. And they knew what the reaction would be.

They probably were hoping for more sympathetic "YEAHS!!" from some others with similar opinions .. but they must have forgot it was fat, lazy, stupid eating poster's weekend.

The only comment I had a serious issue with was A. Nekos. Some others lacked understanding I think, but that's the only one I took major offense to.

No, you are very wrong here (except for A Neko). Please don't start this sort of crap, there has been enough of it. While your post is no doubt referring to others as well, few aside from myself have gotten such vocal feedback. With that said, I shall say a bit more!

When posting my comments, I thought people would be mature enough to have a decent discussion. Instead, they have been twisting words around and turning them into personal insults. Dancien and Surreal have set great examples of how not to act, don't join them.

Not once have I said I have anything against obese people as people, I have not tried to insult anyone and did not intend to if I somehow did. I've only said I want my airplane seat to myself, and posted reasons why people may be obese. However, I have always left room for exceptions to those reasons. Oh, and there was that bit about smokers (oops, brought up smoking again! Sorry Io !), but I literally cannot breathe, so that is likely a more than justified reason.

So, what is the problem here? That people choose to ignore part of my posts and assume I am calling them lazy? Or that I am some prejudice fanatic out to make fun of them? Do people come into this thread feeling so strongly, so ready to be insulted that that they feel they have take the first step and defend themselves even when they are not being referred to?

If you've found my previous posts insulting, please quote me and explain in detail as I am honestly puzzled why people insist on being such royal asshats.

I have close friends that are obese and have worked closely with several overweight people. I was actually a personal trainer (OMG!! A fit person, start the hate!!) for several years before finding a source of income more suited to other interests. Yes, you read correctly! The prejudice, dumb ass bigot, shallow self absorbed twat was actually helping obese people out! Amazing, huh?!

I never set out to put anyone down, only calling the issues as I've seen them first hand. If you do not fall into the issues listed, then you are the exception, and therefore have nothing to be so anal about.

So, can we please stop trying to find insults in everything posted? I am getting a bit tired of so-called adults acting like children wanting to pick a fight.

If you thought "He agreed with a lot of stuff that was in my opinion, crap" is lashing out, then you aren't paying attention.

My opinion stands. Lie down with dogs, get up with fleas.

If by courage you mean, Zoey Jade went and made a new alt when she pissed everyone off on her original, but she's too headfucked to figure out how to not do the same exact things as the first time and many people figured out who she was almost immediately.

Now she appears to be simply just a troll, and I patiently await her nuking from orbit.
