| Account Closed | Russell Brand attacks Jack Straw via Twitter... You probably remember Jonathon Ross and Russell Brand calling Andrew Sachs during a radio show last year and leaving very stupid messages on his answer phone. We certainly discussed it here. Well, Ofcom looked into it and fined the BBC £150,000, and Jack Straw (and a few other New Labour MPs) said that Ross and Brand should be forced to pay it... even though the law prevents it. You'd think he'd know that being Justice Secretary, right? (I'm sure he's well aware of that, actually.) Anyway, Russell Brand, subtle as ever, responded via Twitter. ![]() I'm not trying to defend Brand's position here. It just seems to me that the government are increasingly trying to vilify high profile people into doing what they want after their own inadequate work and/or legislation has prevented it - and that bothers me. Just a few weeks ago for example, the whole country was upset about Sir Fred Goodwin's hefty golden handshake from the Royal Bank of Scotland (a bank that had to be bailed out by the tax-payer). But when the government said he should pay it back because it's his moral responsibility and he refused - quelle surprise, his home was attacked by vigilantes a few days later.Meanwhile, news that the government was in a position to prevent Sir Fred's huge pension while preparing to bail out RBS is largely ignored. <-- That is the real scandal in my opinion. Have the government always used this strategy of whipping up hatred against non-political individuals via the media when public money is frittered away beyond their control? That BBC fine is peanuts compared to the expense claims of most MPs, but they conveniently forget about moral responsibility when questioned about those. Jacqui Smith was "acting within the rules", one Minister said. "She has done nothing illegal". Well neither have Fred Goodwin or Russell Brand, have they? | I have nothing to add but this: I listened to the Podcast of Brand and Ross when they called Sachs and I was crying laughing at it... I've been converted to a big fan of him.. half way through his book right now! |

People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, and in this case the government has a cheek claiming moral responsibility over this. Our local MP Ben Wallace was revealed in the local press as being the fourth highest in the country claiming expenses somewhere in the region of £180,000 a year. While the vast majority of my colleagues have had to take a pay cut following the local government pay review this has had no effect on the local politicians let alone chief exces/department heads running the council |

You know, I have no idea what his "booky wook" is about. Is it an autobiography? /me runs across to Amazon. |

Why am I up the tree, you say,
why are you down there, I say
| They're scum, the lot of them. They are all in each others pockets and both brought about the current economic problems. The government relaxed the legislation around credit and borrowing, then, during the boom years, instead of encouraging institutional saving and companies contributing to their pension funds, the government encouraged these funds to be raided to fund short-term profit making schemes. The government spent everything there was and encouraged companies and banks to do the same, lending out more money to those who couldn't spend. And they wonder why voter registration continues to fall and elections are being voted on by fewer and fewer people. (This, of course, still doesn't stop being Jonathon Ross being an utter, utter twat. Firing is not good enough. He needs to be exiled to a remote island off the West coast of Ireland, where he's pelted by bricks by small, feral children on a daily basis.)

I have to agree, why talentless toss pots and celebrity morons clutter our TV screens is beyond me. As well as Brand I also dislike Alan Carr, Jonathan Ross, Piers Morgan, Amy Winehouse and Blakey , Pete Doherty, Jordan and Peter Andre, Sharon OIsborne and the entire Osborne clan, Kerry Katona, Simon Fuller, Simon Cowell, George Michael, Elton John, that fat twat Chris Moyles and every tit who has ever appeared on Big Bother, any TV Talent Show or any reality tv show. Sadly Saturday night tv is like a Butlins Talent show, it’s little wonder we are all binge drinking ourselves to death. Faced with watching this crap liver failure sounds quite entertaining. | |

I'm alright, thanks
| I agree with Walker entirely, and couldn't express it any better. But I also agree with Max and Caroline, starting with Russell Brand, and working my way through Caroline's list, I'd add Davina McCall, and I'd abolish celebrity chat shows. I don't care what any of them have to say.

My Mood: SL Join Date: 19th May 2006 XBOX Leaderboard: 34th | I have to admit to rather liking Wossy too ...... Russell Brand I detest however. But the real point is that this two faced, repugnant, wanna be tory, sorry excuse for a labour govt., will without ever seeing the irony never fail to try to jump on what they see as popular opinion in order to detract attention from the fact that they are busy screwing us into the ground whilst greedily draining the trough as quickly as they can. .....and yes I am too disgusted to bother with punctuation. Every single bloody time they appear, bold as brass they smugly jump on the bandwagon of the day and opine as if they even have a clue how the majority of us live. I can understand it from the tories ....it has always been thus ....but Labour was supposed to be the very antithesis of the ruling class deciding what was best for the plebs. Clem Attlee will be spinning in his grave. In my opinion it has got much worse since the Hutton Inquiry and the subsequent finding that the BBC had acted unfairly and with bias against the Govt. Suddenly, what should have been the govt being held to account for it's inability to tell the truth became about the Media acting irresponsibly. You could see the glee on every politicians grimy little face. Ever since the mainstream media has been at the behest of government and it stinks. Now we have a situation where the govt spins it's own version of events and the media reports it. The rot starts at the top in this country. That an MP can take his salary and then claim expenses that far exceed what the vast majority of his/her constituants earn is a year is an outrage. To do so at a time when most of their constituants have a hard time meeting their financial obligations because of gross mismanagement of the economy by the govt is the real moral outrage. To then appear on television and look earnestly into the camera and say "We understand, we are listening, we are all in this together." is disgraceful and proves beyond any doubt that this government is morally bankcrupt. The sooner this shower of shites is gone the better.
