eh that's not much of an attack. i don't think we need to stretch this far to attack palin. she's clearly unqualified and makes enough real gaffes that this just seems a little petty.

More like she's not all that sophisticated. Face it, she's a small town hick.

Don't get me wrong here, there is nothing wrong at about being a small town hick per say. But, do you want one as the leader of your country?

Um..let's see. How about Lincoln? Truman? Bill Clinton [Hope Arkansas]...to name a few.

So long as the candidate seems honest, honorable and agrees with me on the issues, I see nothing wrong with a small town hick being president. In fact, all othe rthings being equal, I would prefer a small town hick to a snarky, snobby, psuedo intellectual urbanite.

Lincoln, Truman and Clinton were FAR from being unsophisticated hicks.

Any of those three were extremely intelligent, well educated men.

The anti-rural area bias makes me cringe. One thing I do agree with Palin on (yuck!) is that some of the East and West Coasters need to get over themselves.

That said, I think it's amazing that she can hear what she believes to be protesters against her and speak out about it, but when someone at her rally yells out KILL HIM she does nothing. Interesting.

It's not about an "anit-rural area bias".

It's an anti "moran" bias. Would you want this guy to be your President?

I agree with Red about the lack of sophistication. It doesn't matter to me what size city/town one is from. Clinton was born in Hope, Arkansas, but he got his BA from Georgetown and was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford, and worked as a Senate intern in between. He then went to Yale law school and served as governor of Arkansas for more than a decade before becoming the Democratic presidential nomination. He also worked as a lawyer and was the chair of the National Governors Assocation. I can't agree with the idea that he was "unsophisticated".

I disagree with her on the issues, but, simpleton that I am, do not regard her as unintelligent.

Lincoln an dClinton were well educated. I don;t think Truman ever went to or graduated from college, but he was intelligent. Whether the three examples I cited were actually sophisiticated, I will leave for others to decide. All three revelled in the patina of unsophistication though.

Yes, hick is a pejorative. What is even more of a pejorative is the class warfare game that she is trying to play. Obama hs been about being inclusive - Sarah Palin's rhetoric about "Joe Six Pack" and all this small town values, we see American differently stuff is an attempt to further polarize people, painting educated, urban, progressive people as elitist snobs. The broad brush paints both ways and is hard to stomach when her running mate owns a dozen houses and his wife is an heiress.
