I disagree RR.
Rebecca represents a portion of the world and is entirely entitled to her viewpoints.
While I strongly disagree with hew views, I do enjoy the fact that she expresses and discusses them. I would personally prefer her to express them in writing instead of Youtube videos, but that is a personal preference.

Please note, I am not saying I agree with her nor am I defending what she says. I am defending her right to a voice.

The fact of the matter is, diversity is a good thing.

Granted, I didn't watch any of the videos she posted.

I mean, I realize racist speech falls under hate speech and isn't (and shouldn't be) tolerated at all.

There is a difference in having a negative opinion on a country and its political policies and being racist though. One is welcome the other isn't. One adds to the diversity here at SLU and the other is, well, racist crap.

I recently ran into a similar problem: my daughter was reading a novel and the protagonist referred to herself as an Episcopalian and my girl didn't know what that was (neither did I really aside from a sect of protestant). I had her look up List of Christian denominations - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Now we're both more confused than we were before.

Personally, I understand what Don is saying. I do find people who hold onto such antiquidated thoughts as funny. Most idiots are funny.

It is not an issue of finding racism funny and amusing, is finding her level of ignorance and stupidity amusing.

Yes, to your question, and if that answer allows you to categorize me as a "closet" racist, you are not better than her, by sticking to preconceptions.

Her comments about Israel and Obama are delirious, her veiled attempts to hide her racism towards black people and muslims are a failure.

Do I support her views? Not in the least, but that level of ignorance can only be laughed at and pitied. She will never learn to be a better person, why do you keep trying to make her see what she does not want to see?

Everyone is in a fit and that gives her the space she needs to keep on talking.... just laugh at her, she's not worth it.



PS. I am an elitist, but never on the grounds of religion, skin color or sexual orientation. I despise stupidity.
