I think of all the dead Marines at Iwo Jima, Okinawa, Guadalcanal, all the dead Army boys at Omaha and Utah beaches, all the dead at Antietam, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, all the dead at Lexington, Concord, Breed's Hill, Saratoga, all those boys, and I HAVE to vote.

I also registered as Bullmoose this year.

Disagree all you want, Io, but I'm right: no-one in this country died for my right to vote in it. They died for the rights of citizens to vote, but not for an immigrant on a student visa.

Sorry.

Just a simple "Yes" or "No" is good

Do I have to register each national election? or just once?
I think I am registered to vote in my State.
At least, I have voted before at the State level.

This is the first time I have voted at the national level... as a civillian.
In the military we always filled it out as an absentee and sent it in.
Call your local registrar to find out for sure - I believe in my state the records are stored at a county level and so are a lot of other places.

But if you've voted on state elections you should be good to go for national as well.

@Eboni: Your intent was good. I think it was the last sentence that spurred the arguments. It's ok, you meant well.

I'm a U.S. citizen, and I am registered and I try to vote in primaries and every local election as well as the biggies that roll around only once in a while.

As much as I have reservations about our choices for the major national office this time around, I am kind of stunned when I stop to think that as of Nov. 5 I will have voted for a woman for president and for a black man for president in the same year. Like the results or not, it has been a year of incredible milestones for this nation.

Thanks Cindy.

It's in Alabama. I'll probably have to jump over the fence in the dead of night, dig my way underground into the booth, kill the guy in there, and then tick the little checkbox for Obama. I have an Obama/Biden sign on my truck, they will be waiting for me.

That's ok, I tend to keep a low profile about that in case I'm told to keep my opinions to myself.

I wanted to get a bumper sticker that said, "Armed Democrat for Obama"
That way I didn't get horns honked at me with the finger at red lights.... seriously, it is that bad here.

Only part of it is being a democrat, the rest I think has to do with Obama's skin color.
Sometimes, I really hate being here.

It's funny, the past 10 years I've moved from one Irish neighborhood to another, in different boroughs, completely unintentionally, heh.

Used to be a lot of people over here from Ireland on work visas. Then things got better back home and they went back, don't blame them.

Well said io!! I wish I could applaud and salute at the same time!! Also, don't forget the thousands of dead sailors resting in "Iron Bottom Sound." I suspect io knows where it is; the rest of you can look it up.

It boggles my mind that being a rifle/pistol owner in this country is considered a conservative trait.
And being unarmed is a liberal thing.

I think being a responsible armed citizen is THE MOST liberal right we can exercise.

Eboni - any derail of this thread is my fault - sorry. I'm the one who stirred that pot. Now I'll drunk a big old steaming mug of apology.

Yes, sorry, I forgot our sailors, my apologies.

My parents took me to Pearl Harbor when I was 10.
And my dad explained to me there were still men entombed in the USS Arizona, and it freaked me out.
And to see oil still bubbling up from it, omg... I thought it was their blood.

My father narrowly missed going to the bottom of Iron Bottom Sound, that's why I mentioned it.

Yes. We do it the old fashioned way here, with a paper ballot and a number 2 pencil!

It seriously reminds me of taking standardized tests back in school.
