I believe a recent angle in that "bragging" has been that he's been consistent.

Say what?!?!?! I am happy she added some historical perspective. Yes, I know most of you think Palin is some clueless backwoods redneck, but history and some little girls in this country might remember her as a woman without as much experience as a man with almost 4 decades of experience that could stand up to him and hold her own. Regardless of what side your are on, if you care about the advancement of Women even a little, you have to applaud Governor Palin on this moment, plus, she is 5 weeks in and she hasn't cried yet!

Personally, I think she owned his ass in that moment. The Bush administration is over, they are a lame duck. We are talking about the future and where we want to go. The past should not be forgotten and history should always be studied but stop beating the dead horse. The American people don't like Bush, he made some major fuck ups. We need to move on, lets look towards the future. This is where she as (ugh this is getting old too but it is true) "Washington Outsider" look fresh and appears to be bringing a fresh perspective to the table. Obama/Biden is supposed to be young vibrant and looking towards the future, by calling him out on this tactic/attitude she made him look like and old codger.

Rick Klein

If Obama loses, I think the choice of Biden and all the things he said about Obama during the Democratic Presidental nomination process will be pointed at. I don't think the 527's or the McCain campaign have even came both guns blazing (ha!) on this one the way they can, yet.
None of the above.

I agree. But don't quite get this criticism. From the numbers I've read, Obama votes along his party lines even more than McCain has.

That seems to me normal.

What you are seeing is that Ferraro is sincerely for women. She's a true feminist. She doesn't withhold her support depending on a woman's political persuasion or her position on particular issues.

Plus she's an old dog who's been around the political block, and recognizes admirable things when she sees them.

Still hungover here due to the "maverick" and "hockey mom" drinking game. What happened last night?

Anyways, on more sober analysis, is "hockey mom" the best branding she can come up with for herself? Soccer Mom I could see, even though no one over the age of 10 in America gives a damn about that sport. And hockey is even more fringe than soccer. Those Joe sixpacks are going to be way confused - isn't hockey that sport with all those French players?

Heh. Well, up there in the bitter cold Arctic, you know, hockey is a pretty big deal.

In all honesty, hockey is what we played as kids in Alaska. Every elementary school and high school had a skating/hockey rink. And in the summers when we couldn't play hockey we played "broom ball" which was essentially field hockey.

Yeah I see your point. While it might get a nod of recognition from that in play perma-frost demographic, I think she is in risk of running that schtict into the ground.

As far as her performance, she did well enough to keep further republican calls of dropping her from the ticket at bay. Though nothing to change the dynamic of the race in McCain's favor.

You call it advancement of women. I call it a step on the return to the stone age.
I couldn't agree more. It would be entertaining to throw Palin up against a serious contender like Hillary and see if she'd still use these unprofessional tactics. The juxtaposition would be interesting.

I don't think anyone is attacking Palin because she's attractive. There's certainly nothing wrong with that and as most people know good looks can open a lot of doors that would otherwise be closed. What she's being attacked for is using mannerisms and language that is unprofessional. THAT'S what is truly demeaning to women everywhere.

I felt her answers were delivered like well-rehearsed beauty pageant sound bites.

If he win he will inherit a mess that will require him to do things that will make him out to be a liar and he will not be re-elected. Only an idiot would want to be President at this time in America, it is a recipe for epic failure.

Hockey is way less fringe than soccer in the U.S. It is the second most popular sport behind football in some major cities like New York and Philadelphia, and the most popular in Detroit. There isn't a single U.S. city where soccer is rated higher than fifth most popular. (I can't find the source, but read this on ESPN.com a year or two ago.)

Only on a professional level - far more schools have soccer teams than hockey teams, and that is where the "soccer mom" thing originates from - moms schleping their kids to soccer practice. It is odd that soccer has not caught on professionally, given how wildly popular it is in the rest of the world, and as a school sport.

Possibly.

Of course FDR took office in the middle of the great depression and got reelected a few times.

LOL funny seeing two people who don't have kids discuss this.

In reality Soccer is big on the Community club level. Every suburban city/county has its own soccer leagues for grade school aged kids.

I don't think most those kids even go on to play soccer in Jr High School/High school.

Its a lot like Little League.

Well its kinda like this, if in 4 years ..

If we are out of Iraq

The Economy starts to recover

People have an easier time finding good employment.

Less people worry about losing their homes

Less people have problems with health care

Then he will be reelected.

If not, he won't be.

My recollection, since you didn't post your source, is that when breaking down approval numbers for things like Congress, people tend to be satisfied with their own representatives more and convinced that those "other guys" are morons.

I have posted it before, it has been this way for months. I thought people were aware and didn't realize a source was necessary.
