I will definitely be watching. I really want Sarah Palin to do well. I know this election is lost for her and for John McCain. But so much has been projected onto this woman that has no basis in fact. I would just love to see her do well and not make any major mistakes.

Now in the interest of full disclosure, I must admit that I am buying two expensive bottles of Cabernet Sauvignon to gulp during the debate. I am thinking perhaps vintage 1992 would be fitting.

I am so.. so sorry.

I really really am sorry. When I made the "Trained Fighting Rooster with razor blades strapped to it's legs, versus a newborn baby kitten whose bright blue eyes had just barely begiun to open" analogy.. the double-entendre of "Cock" and "Pussy" had simply NEVER entered my mind. Once I realized it was there.. I *HAD* to go forward with it.. I hope you can see that. I even managed to somehow "offend myself".. but I don't care.. because it really is just too good of a pun.

I couldn't do an impression of Biden, McCain, or Obama - none have a clear a style to me. I couldn't even impersonate Bush although I have read many examples of his mistatements. But there is something unique about Palin, with her thoughts starting, stopping and colliding into each other that I find hard to get through when I read her interviews or get out of my head afterward. I can almost feel the lurching and grasping for the next talking point.

Just take a shot every time she actually completes one thought without a run on sentence into another.

You just might die of thirst before you get any kind of a buzz at all.

I don't know if this analogy will be true. When I read her interviews, I am amazed at her failure to get beyond talking points and her bizarre style. Then I read interviews with people who support her because they connect with her. Maybe it is something does not appear in transcripts - I have no idea. Add the reports that she has been successful in previous debates, and I worry that many Americans will think she "won" the debate, even if her responses are meaningless.

Sadly, the reason a lot of people "connect" with her seems to be because they are just as inept. There seems to suddenly be this celebration of not knowing anything, and that somehow achievement and education are 'elitist'. We've seen what 8 years of cluelessness can bring us. Bush portrayed himself as someone you could have a beer with, and now Sarah Palin is modeling herself as Joe Six Pack (her words) to go after the same idiots.

I hate to be the one to burst your bubble, Cris, but American politics has been all about image over substance since I can remember. How else did we elect the likes of Reagan, Clinton and two Bushes?. Now that I mention it, I think the last President we had who was more substance than image was Carter, and I'm sorry but he just wasn't a very good President.

Here's hoping Obama can turn that around.

I didn't know Palin said she is modeling herself as Joe Six Pack. To me, "Joe Six Pack" means not well educated, with unsophisticated reasoning. If this is even close to what she is trying to be and this is what people want, I am amazed. But I'm also amazed that anyone believed Bush was not part of the elite - didn't they know his grandfather was a senator, his father the president, and he went to Andover and Yale? Andover! Maybe this means nothing to people, but the rest...gah....

Also, now the McCain camp is spinning it as not being important that she answers questions in the debate, it is important that she connects with people - that Americans don't care that much what her answers are.

Thanks.

From the link: Earlier in the day on Fox News, McCain aide Meg Stapleton was also playing up Palin's "Joe Six-Pack" attributes, even arguing that Palin's "experience as an ordinary American" qualified her to be "one heartbeat away" from the Oval Office... "god forbid."
Her experience as an "ordinary American" makes her qualified to be the President the United States?? This makes no sense at all. I think something just broke in my head...

I'm not watching it because it's too hard to follow live captioning, which is often full of mistakes. But I am loving the official thread on it. Not even seeing the debate, the thread is hilarious.
