That's accurate for now. I've done the letters and the phone calls and nothing happened. I may do it again. As for now? Fuck it - I have bigger fish to fry.

That saddens me. Reminds me of that one single guard at the end of the Verrazano bridge. Poor bastard had to stand there in full doss gear with a slinged M4 or M16. Probably some jackass ordered him to have no ammo in the chamber or mag too.

His job? to maybe squelch his radio with his last gasp should anything hit that bridge. Well they didn't tell him that, but being by himself had he got hit, that's about all he could do!

The thing is, I don't remember a declaration of martial law. Speaking of hypotheticals, if I had decided NOT to show my ID, what do you think would have happened?

See what europeans fail to realize is thos of us willing to spend the $, abide by the rules and pass the background checks are not the problem.
In Australia, collectors can own those guns generally, they just have to be deactivated. I think the two guns you mention might actually exempt, but I'm pretty sure would be ok as they're antique anyway, if deactivated properly. People who can own guns we consider reasonable relative to and for purposes we consider reasonable. Who can own what class depends on the reason.

As a country we're cool with that, because it's been our experience that people who legally complied with lax laws, have some times none the less broken the law and murdered people far too efficiently for our liking. Illegal guns are, well illegal, like lots of other things, so we'll deal with them the same way we deal with any other illegal thing, try and stop it where it occurs. Illegal guns aren't really such a big problem here that people generally think gun ownership is required to keep them safe.

Our laws reflect what was a problem for us, based on our circumstances. Our history is entirely different too, the whole constitutional thing is irrelevant to us, there really isn't a reason for us to share that particular value.

You guys can do what you want, your country, your situation, I personally don't care, just clarifying what our laws are, why, and how we feel about it.

Well, thats interesting. But without a declaration of martial law, why am I compelled to show my ID to a member of the US armed forces?

Legally compelled, probably not. Common sense? I'd say yes. It's all going to depend on what level of hassle you're willing to accept to object to being asked for ID.

Refuse to show it and they may detain you. You may then kick their asses with an attorney and lawsuit.

What Surreal said. It's whatever you think you want to risk - keep documentation as much as possible, get witnesses names and hire an attorney later.

I just thought the trailer was interesting and eerily prophetic.

Why do you think your government has been building secret prisons in the middle of nowhere for the past 8 years?

Everything is going according to plan. Just ride the wave, it can't be stopped.
