Gov Palin Personal Email Hacked

Sarah Palin's Personal Email Hacked - Swampland - TIME

Michelle Malkin » Sarah Palin’s private e-mail hacked, family photos raided; cesspool blog gloats

Quote:
Wikileaks, the online clearinghouse of classified information that has caught the Guantanamo Bay prison, Northern Rock, and a major Swiss bank in its crosshairs, has claimed a successful hack of Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin's private e-mail account.

The alleged hack was pulled off by "loosely affiliated" members of an anti-Scientology group, according to Wikileaks, which posted the results with a short justification that cited Palin's reported use of yahoo.com to conduct official state business. (Aides to George Bush came under fire for similar e-mailing behaviour last year.)
The hack uncovered family photos and the addresses of Palin friends -- of questionable relevance to any public records violation, really -- as well as what looks like proof that Palin was indeed using personal e-mail for state business.
The infamous whistleblowers at Wikileaks have hacked Sarah Palin's private e-mail account | World news | guardian.co.uk

Since she is a VP Candidate the Secret Service will be investigating. Looks like some people might be doing some jail time. Also anyone who posts the images of her email are subject to prosecution.

Wikileaks is down. Dangit.

Let's hope the images are up soon. I guess I'll pop over on TPB to see if noone has an archive of them online.

Well, let's be honest here. She was using Yahoo. Yahoo mail is about as secure as the border to Canadia.

Also, Michelle Malkin? I'm not sure we can trust such a biased source. Especially a "blogger"

If it makes it to The Pirate Bay's torrent servers they'll never contain it.

That said, it's a terrible, shitty thing to do. Sarah Palin's records on the public record are enough to discredit her. (The same holds true for EVERY politician, too.)

I got as far as the link to Malkin's blog and had to stop before my head popped off, rotated 360 degrees and steam started coming out of my ears. That woman.

She sure can look cute when she wants to, though.

Er, this one I don't get. It's scandalous that she used Yahoo mail for work? I've done the same when our email system was down.

OMG she understands me! I'm changing my vote. <universe implodes>

... nah.

But I don't get what the big deal is, other than no one likes getting their email hacked. Kinda like, coincidentally, the person who just used my work email address to spam everyone in Yahoo, offering to teach them how to excite any woman. 500+ bounced emails on that so far today.

Depends on the confidentiality of the state business she conducted in Yahoo Mail. I mean if it was responding to one of the eleventybillion VIagra emails I get in Yahoo Mail, no problem.

As far as Michelle Malkin, she irks me from all the times she shows up on the OLielly Factor and purses her glossed lips while espousing hateful views. The only person who makes me that physically ill before even opening their sanctimonius mouth is Sean Hannity - who incidentally is doing a 2 part hard hitting interview with Sarah Palin starting tonight. The only hard hitting will be his hand on his cock if he behaves anywhere near close to the fawning he does all over Anne Coulter.

Using Yahoo mail instead of the official state email system was done to keep the messages from being subpeonaed. It's sneaky, underhanded and wrong. But about what I'd expect from Palin.

If she used personal email outside the state to avoid the email being subpoenaed this it is sneaking and wrong.

That being said, hacking her email and posting images of her in box, the email address of her family, minor children, son in Iraq, husband and friends is a gross violation of privacy and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. You can dislike someone and challenge them in a fair and legal manner. This was below the belt.

Then again, Yahoo mail is probably more secure than the official state email system. Ever done government contract work? LULZ.

You also don't work I would assume in a high level government position, where all correspondence is a matter of record. Even though you have used Yahoo mail before when your mail was out, the work related messages still technically are work communications and would belong to your employer if things got ugly. She was allegedly using personal email to subvert the process, which is not a good thing.

Even if she did that, however, the hacking of her email is still a serious invasion. If someone really wanted access to those emails, there are legal channels to go through. This kind of stuff just puts all of our privacy at risk, regardless of how you feel about her.

Oh, I didn't know that. Then yeah, that's inexcusable. I was thinking more, "Oh crap, I'm home for the evening and forgot to tell so-and-so that this or that had to be done in the morning, I'll just send her an email now" kind of thing.

I wonder how many other elected officials use private e-mail to conduct business? I am sure there are some that do. The answer might even surprise a lot of people.

I wonder how many KNOW what email address their using. I know in Philadelphia, our previous mayor, John Street (UGH, don't get me started) loved his Blackberry. However, he had it set to retrieve his official email through BES and also had his personal address polled via Blackberry Internet Service. How the heck is a politician going to know which address is set as default on a send from their Blackberry? How are they going to know the ins and outs of where to reply?

If they start an email thread from their personal device, there's a good chance it would go from their personal email. Shit, I've been using Blackberry devices since 1999 and am still figuring out all the little tweaks and quirks needed to default to a default email address, especially with things like Google Apps, if you're doing everything over pop... or, even worse, if you have a device email with forwarding from the source server.

Just sayin'. These aren't really technical people (except for McCain and Gore, who invented the Blackberry and the Intarwebs, who I've tried to hire to be my second in command, but they say they're busy).

I really, really, really think it would benefit our country as a whole - which is so dependent on technology - that every politician at every level be required to take an hour or two a week out of their schedule to learn technology. It scares me that McCain doesn't know anything about computers. I doubt Obama's much better - he can probably surf the web and create a Word doc. Understanding the pressure the Internet and US/global communications are under, bandwidth wise, is essential for our next commander in chief. Obama's tech plan is pretty impressive - he had a good author - but these aren't issues you can explain in five minutes to any politician. Tech is something you have to experience to truly understand, at any level of tech. That's why the iPod is such a hit - people don't know they're interacting with tech, because the interface is so brilliant, it just works with the human mind. Okay, I'm off on about three tangents here, I'll stop a three, but you get my point.

Regards,

-Flip

The problem is more the other direction, I'd imagine. With high level corporate types that I've worked with they pretty much just use their work email for EVERYTHING, especially if it's hooked into their crackberry.

It appears the emails she was sending to the Lt Gov that were posted were just them bitching about defending their records to the media, nothing about state business.

Someone will have to googlefoo AK statutes, but if she is using private email for ANY state business it is likely against the law.

My money says that Anonymous isn't dumb enough though to post "state secrets" if they found them as that would land them in even MORE trouble if they get caught. You post what you can to prove you were there, then you comment/ summarize the ones that you shouldn't post in their entirety.

I'm not sure about the subpeona'ing though, as I would think that a judge could issue a subpeana for the private emails as well if they were indeed part of official state business. It's official correspondance that is part of the record isn't it? Not just the medium by which they are sent?

Or does the law expressly state "written correspondance and electronic correspondance sent from a state owned account"?

If the rules expressly say that the only thing in the public record is the account owned by the state, then I'd want to see a list of all the other politicians in America who are probably using personal email to skirt that rule.

Heck, part of what got the Detroit mayor was using a City Issued Cell phone to have his affair, which is what made those text messages part of the public record. If he had gone out, bought his own cell phone, then there'd be no evidence. Good bad, I'm not sure. Just talking out ideas here.

Nothing tops the Jerry Springer story.

State Rep. Mike Kernell confirmed Thursday that his son, a University of Tennessee-Knoxville student, is at the center of heated Internet discussion into the hacking of the personal e-mail of vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

Kernell, a Memphis Democrat, confirmed that it is his 20-year-old son, David, who is being widely named on Internet blogs and chatrooms in connection with an unfolding story about Palin's hacked e-mail accounts.
