I think in some cases its worked pretty well. Didn't Obama's Mom work several jobs at one point? He seems to have made out OK.

People also forget that all of McCain's children are over 18 except for Bridget, who is 17, and that Cindy McCain will also be around. She has a Masters Degree in Special Education and also has worked with Downs Syndrome children.

Fine, but this is not true of ANY child below the age of 6. Children gain limited reasoning ability at the age of about 6. Before this, you can't expect them to understand why a parent isn't there - they just aren't and the relationship the child has with the parent later on in life will be impacted by the absence.

What you wrote completely insulted the way I was raised, which would mean more than zero if you any clue about how me and my childhood aside from the shreds of facts I've given you.

Sure, you are free to waive your ignorance about like banner. But I can't for the life of my imagine why you would want to do this, especially when it involves lives you know nothing about.
I don't know your situation. I won't pretend to know your situation. But, let me be clear here, even if I did it probably wouldn't change my opinion that parents who hire people to take care of their children, while they go run the country, are bad parents. This is true to a lesser degree of CEOs, surgeons, and people in the military. Your responsibility, as a parent, is to the life you created, in my opinion (as a parent of a child.) My opinion - like it, try to impact it, or pound sand.

As for not knowing anything about it? I see it. I see it ALL the time. I spend time at my kid's daycare, just looking at the children. I see the kids who are hit. I see the kids who are starved for affection. I see the ones who are happy, and, shock and surprise, mine is one of the happy ones.

I'm proud I made it through that without in caps or cursing because I know what I'm talking about, I know good parenting, I know bad parenting, and I absolutely have the right to voice my opinion on the differences and the kind of children they are likely to produce.

Well, to be fair ya kind of did but, enh, some people are raised to not call other people that even in passing, ya know?

Mero, you masochist.

There's nothing that says dads can't do potty training rather than moms. If it were her husband running for VP, would you have the same outrage?

I'd actually say the fact that she has 6 children reduces this concern (it is 6 right?). Older children are fully capable of helping out. I'm sure she would be busy and would not get to see her children as much as she otherwise would, but it's not like she's going to disappear for 4 years and never see them. I think that if I don't vote for her and McCain, this will not enter into my decision at all.

And fuck, then. What about all the military people who have been called out to Iraq and had to leave children behind, not being able to see them for months at a time. Evil of them or what?

Poor planning/bad decision to give away their freedom.

Have you read the whole thread? This seems to have been covered earlier and misses my point about 2 adult being there for a child, full time if need be.

Sad for them to the extreme, no doubt. But are their children doomed to failure or something? Why or why not? And why would it be different from having a parent be the VP?

Classic parenting mistake - kids never get to be irresponsible little brats which is the birth right of us all.

No, I wouldn't say doomed to failure. I'd say, more likely to have a bad relationship with their parent and more likely to have trouble in marriage and raising their own children, but certainly not doomed to fail or even to make the same mistakes. Just, a percentage more likely.

Actually, it's a lot worse in a lot of ways (military parent, in an active war, worse than a VP as a parent I mean).

Perhaps if we don't want the candidates to have young children,

Then we should try to get the minimum Presidential Age upped to 60.

-----------------------------------------

That would reduce the amount of young children involved without people having to look partisan as hell by only trotting out the complaint when its candidates they don't like,

or likely the only time most have ever brought it up in a Election Context; Gov. Palin.

Yes, I can see the fine, compassionate, and thoughtful results of your upbringing in full display in your posts. I was raised to be sympathetic and whenever possible empathetic to others, and to not assume I know enough about other's lives to smash them with my ignorant judgments. From what I have seen, you should not be congratulating yourself or your upbringing on your graceful manners and obedience to social norms. FWIW, you are the first person on this forum I have ever used such language with, and I have no regrets. You pulled this shitstorm down on yourself.

You have this odd, irritating quirk that makes you jump into the deepest part of other people's lives, measure it all against your limited standard, proclaim your results, and persist in blabbing on about it long past the point of reason. For someone who doesn't believe in god, you sure seem to think you are all-knowing.

Oh honey, if you knew how I was raised you'd know just how laughable describing your post as a shitstorm is.

Its simply not realistic to have both parents able to raise there kids 24/7.
There is also something to be said for children who have a loving family but the parents are not there too coddle them for every little thing. You can grow up to do for your self and be a strong independent individual.

I'm certainly not saying 24/7...but, can you really put your country ahead of your family when your family is in crisis (an underage pregnancy and a special need two year old is a crisis, by the way, in case anyone was wondering.)

I'm not saying parents can't work...I'm saying some jobs are off limits for a period of time while your life stabilizes and your attention is required.

Mero you are stupid, sexist fuck.

There is no way in hell you would be posting such "concern" over the father of a toddler, don't give me that bullshit.

Do I agree with her decisions? No. I don't agree with the decisions of a LOT of parents, ffs. She isn't running for Mother of the Year. If she was I would give her a fail. But she isn't. She is the VP nominee and it would be a cold day in hell when you make a thread bemoaning a man doing the same thing. You assume someone else, like oh, his wife will raise the kids.
