Rudy did come out and say it however, that is what I was thinking of.

My mistake.
I didn't listen to Rudy's speach.

I do not know Biden's political history. Does he have executive (as opposed to legislative) experience? The experience mentioned is executive experience.

Oh, and there was a dig when she mentioned community organizer. Didn't think of Biden when she said that, though.

Given the derisive laughter Palin's snide comments about community organizers elicited from the Republican convention crowd, it will be interesting to see how McCain is received on September 11th when he and Obama participate in a forum for Service Nation, the theme being "Community Service and Volunteerism."

Palin criticized for mocking community organizing

The group Catholic Democrats today issued a strong rebuke of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s sarcastic mocking of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama’s work as a community organizer during the 1980s.

“I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a community organizer, except that you have actual responsibilities,” Palin, former mayor of a small town in Alaska, said during her speech to the Republican National Convention Sept. 3 in St. Paul, Minn.

The speech by Palin, currently governor of Alaska, followed one by former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who also belittled Obama’s work as a community organizer, drawing laughs from the assembled Republicans.

“It is shocking that a vice presidential candidate would disparage an essential component of the Catholic social tradition with her condescending attack on urban community organizing,” said Dr. Patrick Whelan, president of Catholic Democrats, an association of state-based groups advancing understanding of Catholic social teaching.

The group criticized Palin for mocking Obama’s work “in the 1980s for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development.” The Catholic Campaign for Human Development is an arm of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and it partially funded Obama’s activities in Catholic parishes on the South Side of Chicago. At the time it was known simply as the Campaign for Human Development.

Community organizing was work Obama undertook “instead of pursuing a lucrative career on Wall Street,” according to a statement from Catholic Democrats.

I hear McCain was uninvited from a Habitat For Humanity event today (good for nothing community organizers) and Palin has canceled an appearance in Tampa on Monday (too bad for you SLCC hangers on.)

Wonder what's up.

Community organizing was what Obama did before he went to law school. Then he came back to Chicago and to a small firm where he did not make the big bucks. Some community work followed. I have no idea why I wanted to point that out.

Wow was this talked about yet?? If it was please excuse me.

This has to be bullshit right? No way this can be true and McCain would actually put her on the ticket.

Palin And The Alaska Independence Party

Quote:
Basically, the AIP wants a vote on secession. According to the organizations' website. "[T]hough it is widely thought to be a secessionist movement, the Party makes great effort to emphasize that its primary goal is merely a vote on secession, something that Party advocates say Alaskans were denied during the founding of the state."
Marc Ambinder (September 01, 2008) - Palin And The Alaska Independence Party

Edit to add- Errr someone a little more credible reported it to, CBS.

Palin last night said "And I have always been proud of my country" It may or may not have been meant as a dig on Michelle Obama. Thought just maybe she hasn't always been proud after all.

Beau, that's been mentioned and widely reported on. The story has changed a bit, but at the moment it appears that she was never an actual member of the AIP, but attended meetings or conferences. Apparently her husband was a member.

Interesting question,

Was ANY state given the opportunity to secede?

My initial thought is no. Even the original Constitution was binding after 9 out of 13 voted for it, If I remember correctly.

Sorry Envoy I have been in and out of this thread and dont have time to go back and read 59 pages.

This is not a concern of the Republicans at all? Even with a video of the leader of this group saying they must 'infiltrate' the two major party's?

Why is the press not all over this? Or why have I not heard Palin herself come out and defend it?

It all sounds unbelievable, if it was true I would think it would be major news.

Beau, it is unclear to me what you are asking: is simply the existence of the AIP a concern? Or are you questioning the degree to which Mrs. Palin was connected with them? Unless she has demonstrably more connection to the AIP than I've seen so far, there isn't any reason to have it cast aspersions on hers or McCain's candidacy.

Envoy, her husband being a member and her doing welcoming videos for a group looking to seperate from the USA?

If either of those are true it is cause for concern.

So yes I am questioning her involvment. I am not jumping to conclussions but it is something I would hope comes to light if it is true.

Cindy please explain your disagree. I really need to understand what I am missing and how this is not a big deal.

I am willing to accept it is not a big deal for any reason and I am reading biased stuff. I just would like to understand the flip side.

Edit- All I am reading now is the group does not like being part of America, the founder refers to the American flag as "that damn flag" her husband was a member and she attends the meetings.

Yes. So her daughter getting knocked up is MAJOR news but this is not.

This is from the CBS story I linked to published today.

Quote:
Lynette Clark, the chairman of the AIP, tells ABC News that Palin and her husband Todd were members in 1994, even attending the 1994 statewide convention in Wasilla. Clark was AIP secretary at the time.

"We are a state's rights party," Clark -- a self-employed goldminer -- tells ABC News. The AIP has "a plank that challenges the legality of the Alaskan statehood vote as illegal and in violation of United Nations charter and international law."
So no Envoy, they are saying she was a member of their group.
