McCain apparently fought against earmarks that Palin backed as well, if this is right.
McCain had criticized earmarks from Palin - Los Angeles Times

Quote:
Three times in recent years, McCain's catalogs of "objectionable" spending have included earmarks for this small Alaska town, requested by its mayor at the time -- Sarah Palin.

Now, McCain, the likely Republican presidential nominee, has chosen Palin as his running mate, touting her as a reformer just like him.
Can we call the 'reformer' bit that they keep flaunting a flat-faced lie yet?

Actually, her name is Campbell Brown. Apparently her job on Tucker Bounds scared McCain into canceling his appearance with Larry King.

So! Now, in retribution for the alleged ignoring of your posts you won't go out of your way to link to mine? Is this fair play?

That article is further proof that there was just no vetting of this woman. John McCain's stance against earmarks has been a centerpiece of his campaign - yet his VP candidate is one of the people whoses earmarks made his list of earmark abuse multiple times.

If McCain decided to chose a VP based on their stance on earmarks he wouldn't be able to choose hardly anyone in public office. They are all for earmarks. McCain is the only person I can think of that is against them off hand and has a two decade record on to back it.

Do we need to make a list of all his possible VP candidates that this would apply to?

The Postal Behavior of One Envoy Costagravas

I thought about PM'ing Colette on this, but Lexxi was bothered as well, so I might as well do a little public post. Clear the air, yanno?

Here is a real challenge: engage with a correspondent that you don't know very well, after repeated attempts to clarify a point (as well as underline your belief that they are in error), and frame it in a way that shows you do this in as non-confrontational a manner as possible? I've written a number of posts directed at Colette and specifically just used her name, to make it a bit more personal. I've even mentioned that at first I had been misspelling it.

More below...

Quote:
Do they think the "friendly comment" takes the edge off something they are about to say, or just said?
I wasn't aware that disagreeing with someone always carries an edge, but I can assure you that any personalization I do is intended to show my regard for the other party, NOT to demean them.

Quote:
And often is more annoying than helpful.
Noted.

Quote:
I would think keep things neutral during a debate, and more friendly during a non-debate.

Not the opposite.
I don't happen to agree, but as long as we are clear with each other, it shouldn't matter.

Quote:
My initial reaction to the post above was "Don't "Dear" me! "
You have my apologies.

Quote:
But I thought it over and figured you just don't put any thought into it.
On that, you couldn't be further from the truth, as I DO put thought into my posts. And now for the wrap-up:

Colette, I don't know you at all, save for reading a number of your posts since you came to SLU in recent times. However, I've been posting here (and on other 3rd party forums) for nearly 2 years, and there are a lot of posts as a track record. Those who know me, know me as a person who goes out of his way to be courteous. This doesn't mean I quash my passions for certain subjects, or that I don't make an occasional gaffe, but one of the last things I could be reasonably hauled on the carpet for would be directing condescending and insulting behavior at others. That you leap to that conclusion is no different than my mistaking that my intention would be clear enough - IOW, we have both misread each other.

I'm not out to make enemies, and I'm not out to belittle or cast aspersions. I hope you'll take this to heart, as I'm being very honest about my intentions, but if you give it a *shrug* like some people do, I'll certainly know where you stand.

$60 on burp cloths?

I am so happy that we have vaginas and illegitimate children to fill the news instead of high gas prices, rising food costs, war, worldwide famine, genocide. It is so awesome that one little cute white girl can again monopolize the news while people around the world suffer. Moments like this make me hate mass media.

I was talking to my mom about this tonight. I asked her what she would do if my sister became pregnant at 17 and she was offered a very public position. My mom simply answered that any good mom would take a pass on that job offer and that her children come first.

Not saying it's right or wrong, but thoughts?

I would have to say that sounds more like my mom as well. Children come first. That's how I was raised.
