Has a presidential candidate switched VPs in recent history? I can't seem to recall any. I would not be surprised though to find Paulin replaced if she becomes too much of a distraction and liability for the party.

Thomas Eagleton, who was George McGovern's running mate. He had electroshock treatment in the 60s, I think

@Collette - I don't care if a candidate is boring if I think they can do a good job at what I'm electing them for. I seriously hope that your continuing mention that Biden is boring is good-natured humor, because I'd hate to be in a discussion situation that really thinks the boring/exciting barometer is the best way to consider candidates for a very important election.

I forgot my sarcasm tags. But, you have to admit, Biden won't have this kind of "controversy" swirling around him.

Not during an election to my knowledge.

I'd be surprised if shes replaced though--

Evidently the real Conservatives think shes the next best thing to Ann Coulter.

Who said it was the best way to decide how to vote?

He is still boring though.

I would be surprised -- one of the Republican party's strengths (and weaknesses) is to make absolute statements. Black or white. You're with us or you're against us.

Whereas the Democrats tend to allow more grey areas. Changing the VP could be interpreted as a sign of weakness, no? Or God forbid, flip-flopping.

I need to stop a bad habit from infecting these forums before it is too late. Referring to someone with @ and their name IS FOR TWITTER. What happens in Twitter stays in Twitter. Use the quote button. That is all.

If it isn't a primary reason to consider, then who cares? Seriously, this is getting lame in it's repetition.

He's a great guy, and very qualified - he just is not exactly an exciting choice in terms of personality or presence. There's nothing wrong with that, it just doesn't make him much fun to talk about.

Disclosures on Palin Raise Questions on Vetting Process

Pull quote:

Among other less attention-grabbing news of the day: it was learned that Ms. Palin now has a private lawyer in a legislative ethics investigation in Alaska into whether she abused her power in dismissing the state’s public safety commissioner; that she was a member for two years in the 1990s of the Alaska Independence Party, which has at times sought a vote on whether the state should secede; and that Mr. Palin was arrested 22 years ago on a drunken-driving charge.

Aides to Mr. McCain said they had a team on the ground in Alaska now to look more thoroughly into Ms. Palin’s background. A Republican with ties to the campaign said the team assigned to vet Ms. Palin in Alaska had not arrived there until Thursday, a day before Mr. McCain stunned the political world with his vice-presidential choice.
