It happens to the best of us. It's unfortunate for this girl that her mother is very much in the spotlight and so is she because of it.
People sometimes underestimate how self-involved teenagers are. I would be surprised if she had made much connection between her actions and her mother's career.

I also think her mother's career was the furthest thing from her mind

I've seen it reported that in the vetting process McCain was made aware of the situation. I'm wondering how it would have been handled some other way. I feel very sorry for the young woman, who now has to deal with this in the glare of national attention, and most of that attention is due to her mother's views on pregnancy and abortion.

I'm certainly not thinking that. Few people I know are.

We see what we want to see, don't we?
Tis a pleasure (honestly) replying to you.

Yes I am fully aware that rumors and insinuations come hot and heavy from both sides. I was only addressing this particular case.

I just think it's a shame that she was forced to announce this in response to what appears to be unfounded insinuations, rather than at a time and place of her family's choice.

And I agree with you also, it's a common fault not to question or examine critically the things that re-enforces ones own hopes or beliefs.

Only reason this was announced now was because of the left's ridiculous accusations regarding Trig
Oh please. Because parading her ever growing minor child all over international TV wouldn't have made it abundantly obvious Mrs Palin didn't keep a close enough eye on her own backyard.

Her mother made the decision to march her pregnant daughter in front of cameras. She could have simply KEPT HER MOUTH SHUT.

Cheney's gay daughter was actually somewhat celebrated by the Republican party, in a very careful juggling act.

I think they actually kind of like these things, because it gives them a chance to play both sides of the fence.

Considering I actually was pregnant as a teenager - I think possibly I understand better than you all are acting like I do.

I actually also have a 17 year old daughter.

That girl was thoughtless in this. It could have cost her mother her job.

Who knows -- with the way people are going on about this "hypocrisy" it could cost her mother a lot more than her current job.

My son was born when I was 17 also. Don't assume you are the only one qualified to talk about such things.

She was celebrated for being a self-hating, self-effacing homosexual who was content to enjoy the social status won by the loud faggots who pitched fits while at the same time disparaging those people and refusing to help them. She did absolutely nothing for gay people and in many ways actively worked against them.

She was a champion of everything that is sad and depressing about the policies her father and his friends seek to spread across the planet, and all the damage those policies cause.

Yeah well, I didn't have sex until I was 19, and it's with the guy I'm marrying (and that goes the same way with him too). AND we are both anti organized religion. So I am the only one qualified to speak on this.

Wait...

Ummmmm THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!!

I really can't stand her.

And then she came out with a book afterward talking about how she had grave misgivings during the 2004 campaign and I wanted to strangle her to death myself.

What good would keeping her mouth shut have done?

The girls 5 months pregnant, it would have shortly become visibly obvious anyways.

But it should have been thier choice when to annouce it, not being forced to respond to vicious accusations

Well this is what I meant. The Republicans don't necessarily see these "moral compromises" as bad things, they can use them to play both ends.

To score gay points or when they can act affronted when people ask Cheney "How can you say you support laws stripping the rights afforded to other human beings when you have a gay daughter?"

As if that's not a relevant fucking question to ask.

In her answers, according to the Eagle Forum Alaska blogspot, she said she would support funding for abstinence-until-marriage education instead of explicit sex education programs, school-based clinics and condom distribution in schools.

"The explicit sex-ed programs will not find my support," Palin responded, according to the blog site.

I didn't mean to come across as acting like you don't know what you're talking about.

I don't think Sarah Palin is a hypocrite for this, either. However, I don't agree that her daughter should be held to a higher standard than any other 17 year old girl. She's human. I feel sorry for her more than anything. Not because she's pregnant, but because she's under public scrutiny.
