Well, it is sad. It is sad because significant portions of the Republican Party Platform deal with sex and the morality thereof. If Obama had a pregnant 17 year old the GOP would be having a field day shouting about "liberal hedonism and lack of morality." It is only an issue because Republicans have made sex a national campaign issue and have been using teenage pregnancy in particular as a club to beat people with as examples of moral decay due to liberalism.

The fact that she is going to have her baby is an admirable choice and she is lucky she has the right to choose. In China, she might not have that choice. In India she might be killed for disgracing her family. She has choices here, although the very same people lauding her for her choice want to restrict that same choice - that is the irony.

I would think that someone concerned for their daughters well being would not put their pregnant daughter on full public display on an international level and then act indignant (this is more McCains camp) and insinuate liberal bloggers forced them to say she was pregnant.

You don't want people to know your 17 year old daughter got knocked up sweets, DON'T ACCEPT THE NOMINATION.

The timeline of the birth of the governors son made me question her judgement - you don't fly all over the country while in labour, you dumb bitch. But now? She makes me ill.

I am saying that her 'mother' using it for political points, and saying how proud she is of her daughter who will be a mother and a wife before she is old enough to vote make me want to slap her mother upside the head with an alaskan king crab. The person who made this pregnancy a political event is her mother. Her mother CHOSE to put her minor pregnant daughter in the international spotlight. Her mother CHOSE to put her political career before the potential well being of her own daughter, who is already in upheaval. McCain's camp is blaming the liberal blogs for forcing them to make this public? As fucking if - the girl is 5 months pregnant and on the campaign trail, exactly how were people not to notice - were they hiding her behind a huge handbag or couch ala The Young and the Restless?

It's obviously a bad thing politically for any candidate to have a child this young getting pregnant. (If Chelsea got pregnant, it would be different, as she is considerably older.)

I don't see what she SHOULD say about it. "Yeah, my daughter is a slut and we have disowned her?"

I'm sure she would have preferred it hadn't happened. (Who wouldn't?) But I absolutely don't see how this makes her a hypocrite.

I mean, if my daughters got pregnant, would that make me a hypocrite somehow? I mean, I wouldn't be the one getting pregnant, they would!

She has already started scoring points with the religious right for the "good family values". Apparently premarital sex is swept under the outrage rug when you get married and have the kid, even when you are a teenager. Everything I have been reading in the right wing geared forums is that people are supporting her because her daughter is proof that she is pro life.

What she *should* have done is not accepted the nomination for the well being of her daughter and focus on her family, not running for political office. I would have a lot more respect for someone who put their family first, before their political aspirations.

Of course, this is the woman accused of trying to get her former brother in law fired as a state trooper over her sisters bad divorce, and using her office to do so.
