Cindy, because you are so upset in your partisanship you missed why I enjoyed it: I thought the writing was clever and well-done. The actual putting-together-of-the-words is what I enjoyed, because I like well-written pieces.

Come on. No one in their right mind would have expected this choice to NOT get hauled on the carpet for her lack of experience, if for no other reason that it had been one of Mr. McCains prime arguments against the Democratic ticket. If you are going to be so primed and ready to pull the "hypocrisy" trigger, then at least be honest about the definition and declaim the hypocrisy of the choice of one of the least experienced candidates ever suggested for a national office.

One that is pretty important to our overall economy.

That was exactly the point I was getting to. While I disagree with her politics across the board, she came from an area where fighting to survive is a way of life. She took down a deeply entrenched and corrupt political family that had run things in Alaska for decades. The woman is a barracuda and is being played in the media as just some nice suburban hockey mom who walked into the Governorship because she was pretty.

I agree that McCain has chosen her for crass political tactics and assumes that bitter Hillary voters are going to vote for any ticket that has ovaries on it. The real reason I think she's there is because she was the only option that James Dobson would put his stamp of approval on. McCain is a desperate, desperate man at this point. This is his last shot and he will do anything, including hiring the same people who destroyed him in 2000, if that's what it takes to win. There is no limit to how low this campaign will go.

Uhm... you're kidding, right? The 72 years old guy picking a 44 years old woman doesn't make them both 58. That's not how aging works.

In fact, Palin's nomination only highlights McCain's age and turns it into an issue. It just became impossible to ignore that he's the oldest person to ever run for presidency.

Just imagine the mutual photo sessions:

They both did the same thing ---

McCain .. old as heck .. so he picks someone young to run with so people will get off his case.

Obama .. too damn young .. so he picks someone old to run with so people will get off his case.

What is bullshit about it? I enjoyed the article, and I thought it made the case perfectly for why she is the most ridiculous choice ever made for VP. You can attack the delivery but you can't attack the points made.

Sarah Palin's nomination is a complete and utter joke, and shows such a stunning lack of judgement that it is staggering. I'm not so busy critiquing the messenger, it was the message in an opinion piece that resonated with me. Saying that marks the death of journalism is far more hyperbolic than anything in that article. LOL right back at you.

How is picking the Governor of Alaska to be the VP nominee for the GOP an utter joke?

Color me confused here.

Her combined political experience total - 18 months as governor of Alaska, population approx 700,000. Prior to that, she was mayor of a town of 9,000, which was a ceremonial position. That's it.

Given McCain's health considerations, having someone with such a stunning lack of experience as the potential leader of the free world is just reckless. He only met her once and talked to her once before asking her to be VP. There were far more qualified women he could have nominated if that were his goal. It shows a complete lack of judgment on McCain's part, and more of an interested to get elected than to do what is right for the country.

Alaska's economic importance is out of proportion to its population though.

SO I am not sure the "population 700,000" is necessarily that big a point.

She's arguably as experienced as Obama, and I might even give her the edge because she has EXECUTIVE experience.

Nevermind the fact that she is properly placed on the bottom of the ticket.

There were far more qualified people the Democrats could have nominated for POTUS as well.

I assume its a joke in the same way that McKinley made when he choose the 41 year old Teddy Roosevelt who only elected experience was having 2 years as Governor of NY under his belt - What a disaster he turned out when he had to step up to the presidency

Or when FDR chose a haberdasher with only 9 years experience in politics.

Some background on the process of McCain's pick.

Note: this is from the New York Times. I'm not sure if this passes muster on Eboni's approved list of news sources or not.
