I'm flattered you all think I'm so young.

And honestly, if you don't get that when I say I've seen it all, I meant politics, I don't know what to say to you.

How many convention speeches have you seen? How many promises? How many buzzes and highs and omg we are going to win and now things will change have you gone through?

I've gone through ENOUGH.

Whew. Good thing, too. I was getting overloaded with this whole Obama, God of Democracy angle.

I personally think we could use a garden variety centrist democrat in the White House about now. Hmm, garden variety...kinda vanilla. Why did this slogan just pop into my head?

Obama '08 - He's whiter than you think

Honestly, that is what I've been saying all along.

Just right the ship, we are heading for a cliff, man.

Is he the best guy to do the really difficult job of fixing the mess that will be left behind? Nearly every single department in federal governement has been FUBARED under Bush, you know the kind of micromanagement it is going to take to fix that? And then there is the whole, we are embroiled in a horrible, complicated, delicate and dangerous international situation in Iraq which could easily get so much worse it's hard to think about, given the oil, the Russians, the Chinese and Iran.

If inspiring speeches are the answer to all that, I guess I'm looking at this all wrong.

I'm sure John McCain would be kicking ass and taking names right?

Read the whole thread..

Io has said several times of the two, Obama is the better man.

Just he's the lesser of 2 evils, not the fucking messiah.

Yewah I read the whole thread. Quoting that paragraph with my comments summed up my opinion on the entire issue that's all. Wasn't a dig at IO.

I wasnt talking about VAT at all, I was talking about a friend in the UK who needed a root canal and had to wait 8 months to get an appointment to see the dentist. Sure it was free, but hearing her in so much pain because it took so long to find an available dental appointment wasnt pleasant. I'm talking about a Dutch friend who recently lost her home because she was living with her mother, and now that the mom is disabled and going to a care home she is losing her house, her beloved pets and her privacy because she no longer 'qualifies' for a single residence because she is not married and has no children. Is this the sort of thing that America has to look forward to? No thanks..

Are you over 40? I thought you were in your mid 30s for some reason. It was joking anyway, but in some ways... maybe not.

I've seen a lot of politics. Both Kennedy's assasinated, Dr. King too. Wallace getting shot. The riots in Daly's Chicago. The Kent State shootings. Watts riots. Cities burning. Reagan's first term. Roe v. Wade. Stonewall. Vietnam, Libya, shit...

And that only covers US politics.

I was in Berlin when the wall came down. I have a fist-sized chunk sitting on a table in my living room. It was a hell of a party and I got drunk as a skunk that night.

So yeah, I have to chuckle a bit when you present as nihilistic "seen it all." While I sadly relate to the cynicism, none of us have seen it all in American politics yet... and if I was a religious person, I would pray that we never do.

Personally I'm not sure anyone can create the appropriate environment to promote change. It's going to be an uphill battle and most politicians generally prefer the easiest path IMO. I'm going to be stockpiling munitions and food for that Red Dawn/Terminator 3 scenario that's on the way.

(sarcasm........ mostly. )

Dentistry isn't actually covered by national insurance, and hasn't been for years unless you are in receipt of a state benefiit such as income support..

On top of that, I've never had any problems finding a dentist at any time, and I've both had to pay for dentistry, and had free dentistry due to receipt of income support.

Also, I've used the Dental teaching hospital in Glasgow for Dental emergencies, and been attended to the same day.

Edit: yes, there are problems in some areas regarding finding NHS Dentists.. see before Thatcher started to run down the NHS, dentists were required to do free work for those who qualified for it... Her problem was related to right wing fuckheads trying to dismantle Universal Health care.

Surreal, honestly, what does any of that have to do with an offhand comment about having seen enough of the presidential elections in this country to know how completely full of shit it is.

It. Is. Bullshit.

This has nothing to do with the wall in Berlin or riots in the 60's.

I misunderstood you then, I thought you were referring to American politics.

But back to focusing on the important stuff. You're 40+? That's hawt.

Please, if someone wants to present an argument that the election of a President in the USA is a shining example of the greatness of democracy, a testament to the wonder of the system, in which only the best and the brightest win on the issues alone, PLEASE DO.

Otherwise, stop calling me some sort of stupid nihilist.
