Actually it's not based on anything. I haven't been keeping up with what they've found on planets. I thought someone found an amoeba somewhere? I don't care about that either actually.

My dog taught me not to worry about any of this stuff. Live in the moment. Carpe Diem my friends. Have a swim, chase a squirrel and then take a big dump on the neighbours lawn and you will find true happiness.

If that label makes you happy, I don't have a problem with it. I know I'm not strictly an agnostic. I'm too opinionated.

If we really need a label for Cindy, I'm actually an agnostic atheist.

Quote:
Agnostic atheism, also called atheistic agnosticism, is a philosophical doctrine that encompasses both atheism and agnosticism. An agnostic atheist is both atheistic, in that he does not believe any deities exist, and agnostic, in that he does not claim to know that they don't. Agnostic atheism contrasts with agnostic theism, the position of believing in one or more deities based on faith and not claiming to know that they exist.

Agnostic atheism should not be confused with weak atheism, which makes no reference to knowledge. It is possible for an agnostic atheist to subscribe to either strong or weak atheism, independently of his or her agnosticism.

Individuals identifying as agnostic atheists may justify their position by reference to epistemology, theory of justification or Occam's razor.

Arcie sorry to drag you in like this. I see nothing wrong with your post but I need it to make a point.

See this good person here fighting to save lives. Well he does not believe in God, he has understandable reasons not to.

In his post though, he is not reflecting the possibility that maybe God does exist. He is pretty confident in his beliefs. Stuff like this is posted all the time and nobody ever throws a fit that they word things the way they do.

Why should I be any different. I am still waitng for a reasonable answer. I understand the argument about making it easier to have an open discussion. But when it comes from the other side nobody bats an eye.

This was my point all along. I would never ask this person to change his wording to protect my feelings. I can tell his intent was not to insult me.

You and others are the ones who insisted I word things differently. I never did that. Unless it was an tactless insult.

I can go and tell Archie his post is poorly worded too , if it will make you feel better.

He speaks about a lot of things as accepted fact, when really its only his opinion.

I know several people in medicine who feel like you, and several who hold an opposite view on god.

I mean fuck, look at the amount of nuns who enter nursing, and the number of hospices run by nuns.

Sorry, being in medicine doesn't validate your opinion on this or lend it extra weight.

Ok, Beau, since you ask.

It's been my experience over the years that many (not all) believers tend to think of atheists as immoral.

We are responsible for the decay of society, the immorality of our youth and the corruption of America. We're "anti-God" because we don't want our taxpayer dollars used for prayer in schools or Christian slogans in courthouses.

In their view, belief in God is a prerequisite to living a moral life. The Bible is the Word of God and contains all the laws we need to live moral lives.

Even though most of the stuff in the Bible, like the Ten Commandments, are simply practical social rules the small Israelite tribes needed to follow if they were to survive. And the Golden Rule (the ethic of reciprocity) didn't originate with Christianity, it's been very common in ancient Greek, Mithraic, Sumerian, Buddhist and other cultures long before Christ. They act like they invented morality.

Which leads me to the statement "I don't require a god or gods to lead a moral life". I generally follow the Ten commandments (except for the one about gods) because it's a standard social contract not to cheat, steal, lie, or sass your Mom. Why do I need a god to know that?

Kinda think Beau is wrong - I think a lot of people would have been making comments about the tone of Archie's post - if they weren't all worn out from this thread.

The difference of saying something on page 15 and page 50 ...

LACK of a belief is not a "belief".

That's just counter-intuitive.
