There is now work on seeing whether this can be of use to humans.

I am a huge animal lover and eat only vegan when it is stuff I make just for me. But I think some animal experimentation is necessary, even if it would make me sick to see it.
Maybe you're right, but as I understood it. They did, to be able to test aids vaccine. And a few years ago, a woman scientist won the Nobel prize for testing in onions.

Found some links about the doctors that was against animal testing because it wasn't safe for humans:
http://www.lobsa.org/Doctors_Speak_O...al_Testing.htm

If they are to test on animals, they shouldn't just do it out of habit, just because they are curious or because the always had.

So we are funny? Did you just assume that all vegans are activists? Or is the fact that we have other values a threat to you?

So suffering is different depending the size of the animal? Or the intelligence? What I can see is that in both cases, cruel humans are responsible.

After some Google help, I think you are talking about thalidomide, made by the company Neurosedyn, right? The FDA in the US never approved its use because an official thought it had not been tested thoroughly or well enough. And I thought I read (but can't find a link ATM - crappy connection is too slow) that there is evidence that some in the German company that made thalidomide realized it could cause birth defects but kept that information hidden. If I remember, I'll try to look later (but I might have read it in a book and not online).

Mostly the intelligence.

I personally find cruelty adds an extra flavour to meat, which is why I get battery veal.

What cruel animals are you referring to? The hens we were discussing? Or did you just change the subject?

Yes if PETA had their way it would be illegal to have any type of pet.

Ancillary to the fact apparently that domesticated animals live longer and have better care in captivity than on their own.

It kinda sounds like there's a bit of confusing between a Vegan and a PETA member..

You guys dont assume all vegans are PETA members right?

Come lay down with Cindy and I. We'll make it all better.

Ok, I really do need that cold shower.

Im sure not all Vegans are PETA members.

But all actual Peta members would have to be Vegan? Wouldn't they?

I highly doubt all the naked celebrities are actual real members of Peta or Vegans

There is a difference IMO.

I saw a horse get into an accident and break its leg beyond repair. I love horses, and this was an extremely gentle, sweet, kind-eyed mare. It suffered greatly before it was euthanized. When it died, a person lost a beloved, expensive horse and the possibility of a fun, productive relationship with it. But the world did not lose anything. When a person suffers and dies, the world loses something, even if that person seemed to contribute nothing.

I am not explaining this well. Maybe someone else can.

Don't get too sad. I'm sure you know if you have strong opinions people may disagree, but passion and caring are good things. This doesn't make you a child.

And remember, this is the internet - there is a [x] button.

Ok, sorry. Shouldn't have generalized and said vegans. Should have said Hells Angels vs Rampant Out of Control Animal Rights Activists.
Who knows, maybe the vegans would win. Not having fat clogged arteries might give them the upper hand?
And, no not threatened by any values.

There's a pretty interesting philosophical discussion to be had around this.
