Those are indeed some definitions, however, they encompass the definition I gave. When we talk about the barbarians at the gates of civilization, we're talking about the people who wish to benefit from the positives of a society, but not contribute. Who feel themselves to be "other" and therefore not responsible for the collective good.

Except that barbarian implies uncivilised, uneducated, etc.

And then there's the whole not contribute. I consider someone who works hard and provides for their family as the ultimate contribution to society, thank you. To say a hard-working head of family is non-contributing is IMO a grave insult.

If everyone were to work hard and provide for their family, society wouldn't have the problems it faces right now.
