I said pretty early in that I dealt with things that came into my world.

I'm still probably going to point and laugh, but it'll come out more as "I'm trying to raise my daughter in a way that does not embrace the notion of race..."

I just don't have it in me to around right the world's wrongs - certainly not yet. Nothing has moved me to that yet, but even if I did it wouldn't be to fight for the black cause it would be to end racism.

We had this talk about feminism - I see it as inherently flawed because it fights for women's rights, not for equality. You countered, and effectively, but I still believe that the goal of any organization must be to fight for what is right, not against an injustice. Because movements come together not because people are bored, but because enough of them are getting screwed hard enough that they have no other choice but to fight back.

Also, because there is a difference between individual injustice and injustice that is so built into the culture and law that it takes a sledge hammer to knock it out - that's what causes movements.

Ideally, as the original wrongs are addressed, the movement broadens and becomes neutral.

Since my family is referenced so much here, I thought i'd chime in.

We will/are raising our daughter to accept everyone of all colors and not to make judgements of people based on their color. This is how we will make our contribution to society on this subject.

We are barbarians because my family is mixed and we aren't going to fight racism on a grand scale? Wow

I know what you mean. I once had a terrific multinational brownie troop. (I mean, I was its leader.)

Then we moved, and I got a much more homogenous group. Not nearly as much fun, or nearly the learning experience for the girls as the other group was.

Are you guys saying Mero is obligated to be some kind of activist? Like he has to go out and fight for a cause?

Honestly I find someone who goes out, gets a good job, works hard and doesn't complain, the best fight the cause can have. He can be living proof you don't need hand outs from a white man, go and make your life all it can be. Nobody can say anything was handed to Mero. Nobody can take anything away.

I think a black man (or woman) working hard and building a good honest life if what we need more of. Less AL Sharptons and more Mero's.
