I guess I see the world as intrinsically and eternally bad. What does being a sociologist have to do with anything. I'm a technical writer in IT. Does that mean I should not deeply delve into any other subject?

Group motivations are individual motivations, scaled. It's easier to change an individual though, but not by telling them "you're wrong!" Nobody responds well to being condescended to.

If you can show them how to understand why they're wrong, then that's the opening for group change.

Look... I've been the one whose been objecting to Obama being called "black" as opposed to bi-racial and seeing the black/white dichotomy as a failure of opportunity to move beyond those two categories in race discussions in the US.

But until that happens, there is a shit load of work needs doing.

Mero I show up at black churches often. I've never been treated with hostility. This is a very self hating comment really.

I have a home church I call mine, but I visit many churches and denominations. Not to long ago I attened a little whole in the wall black chuch in Bridgeport CT, if you know anything about Bridgeport it is a very crime/murder infested city. I think I created a whole thread not long ago.

I've never once felt out of place. Then again I think most of it is how you carry yourself in places. I go in and am very comfortable.

Most people of god, love gods people. No matter what color, race, nationality, or ethnic back round.

Yeah, I kinda see this as victim mentality...the world can be yours if you have the balls to take what you want. And yes, that may mean leading the march and motivating others, but I have no need.
