Hilton to McCain: Oh no you didn't!

So one of McCain's recent ads compared Obama to Paris Hilton and Britney Spears.

Quote:
A new campaign ad from Sen. John McCain -- which flashes shots of the two aforementioned megacelebrities -- calls Obama a megacelebrity, too, and questions his leadership ability.
"He's the biggest celebrity in the world. But is he ready to lead? With gas prices soaring, Barack Obama says no to offshore drilling and says he'll raise taxes on electricity. Higher taxes, more foreign oil -- that's the real Obama," the ad's narrator says while crowds screaming, "Obama!" are shown.
Responding to the ad, Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor said, "On a day when major news organizations across the country are taking Sen. McCain to task for a steady stream of false, negative attacks, his campaign has launched yet another. Or, as some might say, 'Oops! He did it again.' "
Except oh no, Paris's grandfather is understandably pissed at his daughter being compared to a scrappy, charismatic, up-and-coming Illinois senator!

Quote:
It seems that the elder Hilton has donated $18,400 to the McCain campaign, and $35,000 to the National Republican Senatorial Committee in the last couple of years. (Paris’s father, Rick Hilton, has given an additional $6,900 to the McCain campaign. Suffice it to say, he’s none too pleased either.)
Apparently, the elder Hiltons had breathed a sigh of relief that Paris was starting to get her act together since hitting rock bottom with her stay in jail last year, when all of a sudden the McCain ad compares her unfavorably to Britney Spears and Barack Obama.
And she was doing so well, too!

I for one am so happy to be privy to all this serious, high quality election coverage, and will be following this development very closely.
How will the doubtlessly incredibly important Hilton-McCain conflict develop? Only time will tell, I guess.

ETA: I didn't mean to put a huge picture of Paris in there, but I think it gives this post a certain je ne sais quoi, no?

I don't know who's running McCain's advertising campaign, but speaking as a Democrat, I hope they keep up the good work!

My favorite part is that Obama got accused of "playing the race card" (I'm not sure what the fuck that even really means) when it was McCain who compared a man running for president with the two biggest skanks of the past decade.

McCain is SUCH a Lohan.

McCain's complaint is that Obama has started to say things like this in his speeches "What they're going to try to do is make you scared of me. You know, he's not patriotic enough, he's got a funny name, you know, he doesn't look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills." The suggestion here is that Republican's don't feel that black people should be president, and that people with a traditionally Muslim name should be feared. I think it's a very legitimate complaint and that Obama has gone to far with these statements. That said, McCain is going to lose any high ground on this issue quickly with ads like the ones he is currently running. You can't complain that your opponent is dealing from the bottom of the deck while doing the same thing yourself.
