La Table Suisse Not for the faint of heart.

Portrait of our restaurant "La Table Suisse", the first restaurant in Europe that serves traditional Swiss menus with cat and dog meat.

Will this catch on in the North American Union (U.S Canada Mexico)?

1 in 5 Swiss polled claimed to have cat or dog meat on average one holiday a year, seems cooking cats is a family home holiday tradition in Switzerland.

I've eaten both. Didn't know what I was eating at the time but certainly not the weirdest thing I've ever eaten.

No, it's not going to catch on in N. America unless there is starvation on a massive scale.

Even then it would be a close call.

Yeuch...

My wife's great-grandfather's brother allegedly ate (all unknowing) ' long pig' at a feast in New Guinea when he was a District Commissioner (or somesuch). He's supposed to have said that it tasted like pork, but without the crackling.

Actually, yes, the wiggly things inside are a bit off putting but if you like strong cheeses, like Stilton, its incredible.

But actually eating "long pork?" Even unknowingly that's a story I wouldn't tell anyone.

Oh, ffs.

My husband is Swiss. I lived there for 30 years.

The Swiss DO NOT cook cats or dogs. Horse, yes. There is no such thing as "family home tradition of eating cat or dog".

I am not saying more than that except to say this is a load of crap.

Thanks, I had no idea how to express myself in that manner.
I have never met a Swiss person who tried to eat cat.

I only started this thread for conversations of discussion not to anger anyone, myself just wanting would just like to point out I've always had respect for many peoples cultures and beliefs, while if in Vietnam or Cambodia I would likely try some very unconventional dishes they have, as for cats or dogs no I would not eat them, but if people do it they have a reason, It's not for me to judge.

Often many practices in the past were due to war, starvation or famine, while a stereotype in some western ares would pander suggestions that Chinese or Koreans do so commonly, it is a myth or isolated cases not representative of the majority in those countries.

"Switzerland has four official languages: mainly German (spoken by 63.3% of the population in 2014); French (22.7%) in the west; and Italian (8.1%) in the south.[157] The fourth official language, Romansh (0.5%), is a Romance language spoken locally in the southeastern trilingual canton of Graubünden, and is designated by Article 4 of the Federal Constitution as a national language along with German, French, and Italian, and in Article 70 as an official language if the authorities communicate with persons who speak Romansh. However, federal laws and other official acts do not need to be decreed in Romansh."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Switzerland

Switzerland is a very diverse country with many French, Italian and German areas, they even have some areas that still want to break away forming their own country, it's hard to disbelieve a country as diverse that they wouldn't have different customs in different areas.

I am sorry you might feel upset about the thread, it is hard to think of an area of such prosperous peaceful people who would eat animals that in our minds are pets, it would seem that they are hurting them, while we can only hope those animals died as humanly as possible.

If the Daily Mail is quoted as a source, that says it all. As does the impeccably phrased "Dog meat get served" YouTube.

However, your stuff about Switzerland being "prosperous and peaceful" also says a lot. I tend to think you know nothing about Swiss history, including the fact that at many times in its history, it was neither. Even today, there is plenty of poverty around, but I expect that doesn't suit the Mail's take on it.

I'm not quite sure what this thread is about, but it sounds like a pathetic individual stirring a pot for very little purpose except to spread fake news.

Not impressed.

Except, they are finding out, there are no herbivores, really; when deer are eating dead humans and killing at eating birds? Squirrels eat other rodents? When cows are eating chickens? [I still say that the whole chick-fil-a ad campaign is some deal - they only serve breast meat, the cows get paid off in the rest of it]

So, basically, only humans are herbivores, and not by nature.
