It took me a long time to try to figure out just by watching matches what "icing" even was. Sadly I failed and had to wiki it, and I think I had to read that a few times before I finally got it.

It's truly brilliant, in a buahahahaha super-villain sort of way. Well, a Canadian super-villain: "Buahahahaha ....oh, I'm sorry, your beer is empty. May I get you another? Poutine?"

I'm just grateful we came up with the infield fly rule -- without that, we'd all be speaking Canadian today!

BOO-YAH! A 17-year-old boy won the USA a gold in men's snowboard slopestyle, so it only makes sense that 17-year-old Chloe Kim wins the USA a gold in women's snowboard half-pipe.

USA also got the bronze; Jiayu Liu of China won silver.

Poutine? Psaw! I will take vegan snots any day. It is basically just a vegan version of cheese fries. In college we had a food truck and it (well, a non-vegan version) was on the unwritten 'secret menu' of names college students would use for the various food items.

I was just watching an american downhill skier (I did not catch the name, he is from VT) do an epic wipe-out on a slalom flag.

Yeah that looked painful.

I'm just still amazed that Dressen, the very first one down today, is still in first - nobody has beat his time yet. ^^

Back to Chloe Kim for a moment though - here's her gold medal run. She actually won the gold with her first run of three, it was good for 93.75 and she wasn't bested the whole rest of the final. So when she came up for her third and final run, as the last one down the pipe in the event, she didn't even have to do anything - she'd already clinched gold. But she was not content to just do a weak victory lap. Take a look:

Ohhhh Canada....

Quote:
During the free dance portion of Sunday’s team figure skating competition, guileless Americans like yours truly tuned in to cheer for Adam Rippon, Mirai Nagasu, and the Shibutani siblings, only to immediately question our national loyalties when the Canadian ice dancing duo of Scott Moir and Tessa Virtue took the ice to a Moulin Rouge! medley. And by “took the ice,” I mean “basically made beautiful Canadian ice babies before our eyes.”

USA also got the bronze;
At the pinnacle of irony, Arielle Gold won the Bronze

I tuned in especially to see Chloe. They'd been hyping her for weeks and, since I never watch snowboarding I was curious.

She was last to board, and holy NUTBALLS when she took off from the starting line, I gasped - I saw immediately why they were promoting her. That girl went higher and faster than I thought humanly possible. And in her third run, a "glory run" since she'd already cinched the gold, she earned a 98.25 out of 100!

By the time her final run came around, the gold medal was secure and Kim was free to take a victory lap. Instead, she attempted to add an exclamation point by landing her most technical sequence of tricks — the back-to-back 1080s.
Truly breathtaking performance.

Anyone see the men's halfpipe qualifiers today? How about Shaun White. Holy shit! He scored well high enough to qualify on his first run, but then pulled out all the stops on his second (completely unnecessary) run to not only retake the top of the leaderboard, but turn in a nearly perfect score - in a qualifier!

Nope.

The only way to win a test match is to bowl the other side out twice within the allowed time, and have more runs in total than your opponents when you've done so. Anything else is a draw.

Germany vacuumed up those biathlon golds - puts them at the top of the medal board. Norway and Nederlands just underneath. Canada 4th, and USA remains 5th.

Shaun White got his half-pipe gold though!

Sung-Bin Yun has won a gold medal for Korea in men's skellington!

Krista Parmakoski, who won the first bronze medal of the games for Finland in the 15km skiathlon, has won a second bronze medal in women's 10km individual cross-country - tied and shared with Norway's Marit Bjorgen. This brings Finland's medal count to 3, all bronzes.
