Bono: 'Music has gotten very girly' - BBC News

So, tax dodging hypocrite, Bono, bemoans there's no music for angry young men, and music has all gone "girly.

First off, U2.. seriously they did 3 albums that weren't shit, then spent the rest of their career producing utter bollocks with no guts or balls, so no Bono, you don't get to be the arbiter of what's fucking angry enough, you soulless pretentious hypocrite.

Secondly... "girly". Look Bono, I understand you're complaining that music (in your view) lacks fire, anger, conviction... but to class music that doesn't have these qualities as GIRLY exposes your opinion of women to the world. Well, at least Gamergaters might buy your albums now you fucking shitstain.

Thirdly Bono is confusing mainstream radio wityh music in general. Because let's face it, he's too busy telling people to give money to the poor, while he dodges taxes to listen to anything not spoon fed to him by MTV and VH1.

Tldr: Bono is still a cunt U2 are still shite.

What's the difference between God and Bono?

God doesn't wander around Dublin claiming to be Bono.

This is the same man that I saw champion Joey Ramone for his singing style that he described as girly, and made him feel like he could sing the way he does.

This man makes no sense and U2 blows.

I don't think I've owned a single thing from U2 ...like ever. Not used, not pirated.

I like a song here and there but honestly?

The only U2 album I've owned was this one when I had an iPod, an album that Apple put into everyone's collection for free, in order I guess to celebrate some new OS or other. Afterward Tim Cook had bragged about how it was officially "the most downloaded new album ever" or something by the numbers, although this was really a bad faith statement considering that Apple forcefully downloaded it to every single iTunes account's music collection regardless of interest and wouldn't let them delete it.

The hilarious part was, people ended up whining loudly enough to force Apple to create a special tool just to remove the U2 album from their collections. That had to burn, people not wanting your stuff even for free.

I was never a huge fan, but that aside, was U2 ever considered “manly” music even by super fans ? I don’t even know what manly music means, but I can’t recall hearing U2 streaming from a welding shop or out the windows of a pick up with a lift kit or whatever the criteria might be.

Yes, we generally revel in the music of whatever decade we were in HS during. So we watch a lot of "best of the xyz's' type shows. In that we are reinforcing the best of the decade .... when we are reminded of some of the other stuff we remember it was no better than any other decade.

I swear by 80's music. Then someone will remind me of some early 80s tunes.

I do, too. But Veritable's right: Each era had a lot of crap, and we've subconsciously chosen to block it all out. But I'm not sure I agree with the 90% figure. For the 80's, I think it was more like 40%.

OK, more like 40% crap, 50% competent filler that doesn't age well, and 10% that will stand up on reflection (and a good bit of that only in retrospect).

In the 70s there was a motly group of outcasts in Dublin who went by made up names, got into general trouble, and dabbled in music. One faction (including Bono and The Edge) wanted to be the most popular band in the world. Another bunch set out to be the best band in the world. For a while they were both right.
