Actually, it probably would have been created whether disco existed or not. Show Prince several different paths and he would set off in his own direction. Maybe it would match one of the already existing formats, maybe not, but it would be because that was the direction he wanted to go in.

One of the best descriptions of Prince's approach to pop music that I have ever heard. Spot on!

I think you put your finger on what Bono was trying (poorly) to say Kaimi.

Of course, I also wasn't really much into disco until well after the fact, and even then, it's limited. ABBA, ELO, and the Bee Gees are some of the ones I like.
Except that ELO was never Disco - they were prog-rock. There were more things popular in the 70s than just Disco.

Did you ever actually play Revolution 9 backwards? Are you one of us?
White album was the first album I chose for myself.

50 here too. And I didn't really get into Floyd until the 80s either.

I actually like disco, not all obviously, but if it makes these bones wanna get up and dance, it's all good for me. Funkytown? Oh yeah, I'm dancing. The following song isn't erudite or particularly deep but epitomizes my approach to music. I'll just be over here.
The problem is, seems like people are conflating disco with soul and funk. They are related, but not the same genres.

[And also apparently, prog-rock?!]

70s saw a -lot- of music genres.

Discovery, while not purely disco, had a lot of disco influence. Oh, and Xanadu.

I first heard them when I saw The Wall in college. This led to someone (me) who was on 0 mind altering mind altering substances asking detailed questions about plot wholes in that movie to people who were probably on several.

Saw the Wall in College and it kind of made sense without drugs - but I was already a Dark Side fan... Then I heard Syd era stuff and well.... that's my fav stuff - the wall and final cut I don't like all that much anymore.

Shouldn't they be called classical? They covered Beethoven's fifth symphony.

Bono is as much of a sanctimonious prick as Morrissey.

Morrissey is more of a xenophobic UKIP supporting little Englander than sanctimonious,, to be fair.

I'll give Bono props over Morrisey for not supporting right wing wankers.

AND FUCK YOU SREDNI FOR MAKING ME SAY ANYTHING POSITIVE ABOUT BONO.

To be fair, Bono annoys me more frequently than Morrisey does ...I almost never hear about Morrisey. It sounds like he's grown up to be the UK equivalent of the Nuge?

Hey, you're welcome.

That said, Morrissey cancelled a string of concerts in California because it's apparently too cold here.

He's cancelled shows because concession stands served meat.

He's definitely on a Bono level of Sanctimonious.

I don't know, I never heard Bono forced his fellow bandmates to become vegetarian/vegan.

See, I've heard Morrisey's a jackoff and has said obnoxious things (against immigrants or am I thinking of Clapton?) but never the specifics.

Bono's obnoxious sanctimoniousness gets a lot more press over here.

I believe the most recent Morissey crap was saying that victims of sexual assault deserve it, or at least, shouldn't be reporting it - I think someone shared the tweets here somewhere else?

Yes, he said that. He's also a UKipper, and he claimed their leadership election was rigged, because his choice, who was rabidly islamophobic, lost.
