Do you use iTunes? A few years ago they forced an album on every user. You may own some U2 and not even know it.

(Dakota apparently mentioned it.)

My parents’ generation had The Beatles as their boy band and mine had Menudo. Some hands are cleaner than others.

I WANNA HOLD YOUR HAAAAAAAANNNNNDDDD, I WANNA HOLD YOUR *snore*

EDIT: I've lived with people that compare all the music I like since I was born to the beatles/frank zappa so I might have a hater bias.

I'll be honest, I quite like U2's music, the earlier stuff anyway. I think they kind of lost the plot (musically at least) sometime in the early 90s.

This liking however, has always been in spite of the band members themselves, not because of them. They're all arsewipes, it's just that Bono is such a monumental knob end, it makes the rest of them seem reasonable by comparison.

I like a lot of bad music (a really, really lot). I cannot be shamed. But I *know* itís bad music. I also like a lot of good music, but Iíve learned no matter how much Prince and Leonard Cohen music you own, your friends will still drag you for the one Ronnie Milsap CD.

Yeah. I love love LOVE the Cars (or the Caws as they were pronounced back in NH). I am sure if I played their music to kids today I would get some quizzical looks though. While the story in them would be understood they would be considered to be objectifying women. Or without the background of the cold war and post WW2 times much of the Wall sounds like more of a drug dream then it sounded like at the time, even though it is probably on a list of the top albums from that era.

I love a little Leonard Cohen, and I have a little Ronnie Milsap in my MP3 library. Nothing wrong with that.

Ok, so I am not the only one for who early U2 is a guilty pleasure. Every time I hear them now my reaction is 'they have not broken up yet?' rather than some commentary on the song itself.

Not only have they not broken up yet, they just released a new studio album earlier this month.

The horror. The horror.

Please someone tell Tim Cook not to bundle it with itunes. That other album probably got a lot of negative PR from the how to remove it articles so hopefully U2 and Apple learned not to repeat it though.

Spoilt little boy, I'd have said.

Disclaimer, I did once own all the U2 albums up to Rattle & Hum. They got stolen and I never bothered replacing them

Ah is that how that stupid U2 album in my itunes got there? Songs of Innocence (or is that Annoyance) it's called.
I can't remember if it just randomly appeared or if it downloaded alongside an itunes software update.

Apparently Bono lives next door to Enya. How does she put up with him I wonder? LOL

You mean stuff like this ?

Anyway, not only do i think Luc is right that most of the music in any era is crap/filer stuff, but i would also say that this applies to any genre. No matter which one. We all tend to "forget" that crappy stuff even in the genre we like most. And maybe Bono should look away from the charts he might find that there is tons of music around that is actually quite different from what he describes.

As for U2, apart from the occasional song here and there, i only ever really liked their Under a Blood Red Sky Album, thats it.
