FWIW I don't think Weinstein has been singled out. The accusations against Trump and the Access Hollywood video that emerged absolutely dominated the news media for months; the coverage Weinstein has gotten so far is practically nothing by comparison. The difference is that Trump voters proudly refused to care or be bothered by it, whereas many of Weinstein's supporters and enablers were only privately not bothered by his behavior, but have a public face where they claim to be concerned about women and the harassment they endure.

LOL: The Weinstein rape story was originally an NBC scoop until corporate got cold feet, forcing their own reporter to publish in an alternate outlet.

These Are The Women Who Have Accused Harvey Weinstein

That is a LOT of women with very similar stories, usually involving a bathrobe.

Working with the NYPD and wearing a wire, one actress recorded Weinstein trying to convince her to watch him take a shower.

That's the tape I mentioned upthread when you said:

Quote:
until we have a tape of Weinstein, in his own voice, stating that he likes to grab women in the pussy
He admits he's "used to" fondling women's breasts in the tape. Fine, it isn't grabbing them by the vagina but does it have to be? In the opinion of men who are Very Opinionated on what constitutes a woman's right to say she was assaulted, yes it does matter.

In reality, it doesn't. To anyone with a brain, he just admitted on tape that he's used to parlaying his position of power to sexually assault women.

Or to just being used to sexually assaulting women, depending on what nuance you want to add.

Weinstein's company may be guilty of breach-of-contract for firing him. Turns out his actual contract literally allows him to commit sexual harassment without consequence as long as he reimburses the company for any settlements or judgments it has to pay out for any lawsuits.

Screw the name change. The whole company needs to be held accountable.

I'm constantly amazed at how relevant "Yes Minister" has been in explaining and interpreting scandals:

Yes Prime Minister - Rules of the city by dm_50cbc41cded29 - Dailymotion

Glazebrook: "They've broken the rules of the city."

Applebee: "I didn't know there were any."

Glazebrook: "Just the one: if you're incompetent you have to be honest, if you're crooked you have to be clever ... if you're the former everyone gathers around to help you out, at 10 cents on the dollar, but if you're clever people aren't stupid (well not that stupid) if you happen to be making scads of money for them."

Applebee: And "Baileys?"

Glazebrook: "Well, they were both incompetent and crooked."

A snowball? Maybe?

Amazon Studios head suspended after harassment allegations

Quote:
Roy Price, the head of Amazon Studios and global content at Amazon Video, was put on a leave of absence Thursday following a report that the executive made obscene comments to a TV producer.

Amazon spokesman Craig Berman said "Price is on leave of absence effective immediately."
The move came hours after The Hollywood Reporter posted an article detailing harassment allegations lodged by Isa Hackett, a producer of Amazon's critically acclaimed series "The Man in the High Castle."

Hackett claimed Price, who holds an exceedingly powerful position as the executive in charge of Amazon's well-funded TV efforts, repeatedly made lewd comments to her despite her rebuffs.

Hackett told THR reporter Kim Masters that the incident occurred in 2015.

Oliver Stone says poor we should reserve judgment and wait until the "trial", because I guess nobody told him that Weinstein actually copped to the harassment at least.

FWIW I guess Lindsey Lohan got on Twitch or something a couple days ago and said Weinstein is awesome and it's unfair what he's going through and "people need to stop". Very weird moment.

Stone "clarifies" his statement.

Quote:
Director Oliver Stone has issued a “clarification” regarding remarks he made Thursday about Harvey Weinstein, and has cut his ties to the “Guantanamo” series due to the involvement of The Weinstein Company.

Stone said in a statement issued Friday: “I’ve been travelling for the last couple of days and wasn’t aware of all the women who came out to support the original story in the New York Times. After looking at what has been reported in many publications over the last couple of days, I’m appalled and commend the courage of the women who’ve stepped forward to report sexual abuse or rape.”

Must be a male thing: defend a fuckbag without thinking, just because he has a penis.

Ben Affleck did it slyly, by leaving out the fact that he knew about what was going on. He then went on to assault women himself, and has a scumbag of a protegee brother.

Matt Damon used the old trope of "I'm a father of girls now, so suddenly this well-known thing is abhorrent to me" and expected a fucking medal.

I don't know. Cate Blanchett had a pretty measly response herself.

Quote:
“Any man in a position of power or authority who thinks it’s his prerogative to threaten, intimidate or sexually assault any woman he encounters or works alongside needs to be called to account. It is never easy for a woman to come forward in such situations and I wholeheartedly support those who have,” Blanchett said.
Any man, Cate? Can't bring it to yourself to call out this particular man by name?

Yes but we're far more likely to see women believe the victim than the accuser. Males coming forward seem to be outliers and so do women who defend abusers.

This shit is pervasive throughout Hollywood, and women aren't the only victims.

I mean, fuck, Even Terry Crewes has talked about having his crotch grabbed by a Hollywood bigwig, and look at the child abuse Corey Feldman has spent years talking about.

Hollywood is a shithole, lorded over by sleazy fucks. Sexual predators of every variety.

All of this shit needs to be stamped out.

Corey Haim's abuse led to his eventual death by drug use. When people say they didn't know this stuff was happening, they're flatout lying.

Yeah I think it was Haim's death that got Feldman speaking out. He didn't name any names, but he dropped some vague hints about who his abuser was, which has led to speculation implicating a number of different people. There was another, much more anonymized claim around the same time that from one "extremely popular" but unnamed family sitcom in the 90's several of the child actors were abused. I hope Weinstein's crash also motivates Feldman and others who were victimized as children to start naming and shaming.

Meh. That's really nit-picking to call her out on that choice of wording. At least she wasn't pulling a Donna Karon about how "wonderful" the Weinsteins were, at the time that Harvey's wife was packing her bags and getting the hell out of Dodge.

I also cringe hearing Hillary Clinton denounce Weinstein. Yes, she's saying the right words, but her own husband is a dog, too, and her aide Huma Abedin stuck with her perv of a husband until he dragged their CHILD into the mess. These are women who have, at the very least, a deep reservoir of tolerance for "bad boy" behavior that is, if nothing else, really depressing to know about them.

Right-wing hit squads have accused Hillary of legally attacking the women who tried to denounce her husband. I don't know enough about the evidence to judge whether it's malicious propaganda or truth, which points to my own hypocrisy. I'm in the "God, I really don't want to know" camp, and I'm not even a staunch supporter of Clinton as anything other than a better alternative to Trump.

So I can't take any moral high-ground, and I daresay we have all had our blindspots on this issue.
