Well, considering what we did to the native population here, I can't say I blame you in the least.

Well, and if I'm not mistaken, the Earnharts -own- their team - they own plenty of other things [ a close family member worked for them at a clothing factory, handling their IT.

Yup - americans are weird [some of us just in friendlier, and more amusing ways].

They have their own team in Xfinity. In the Cup Dale drives for Hendrick.

National Anthem - The Star-Spangled Banner (USA Anthem) Lyrics | MetroLyrics

When I found out there were more verses, and the lyrics contained within - I've two things; one, I don't sing it anymore, [and haven't even had it come up where I needed to stand, etc] and two, tell me again that the north won the civil war. That we went from the Battle Hymn to a song that basically says slavery is worth protecting, even if we don't sing that part?

Yeah.... [and look at the history of the early days of hollywood and movie making.]

One of my best friends in Second Life (and sort of in real life, as we text a lot) is half Lakota. She has been told numerous times to "go back to her country if she doesn't like America".

She's a brown person, and all brown people are bad, mmkay?

Regarding Nazi's and the sympathizers and cohorts that march with them:

Regarding professional athletes silently protesting race-based police brutality, and doing so in a patriotic/respectful way by kneeling:

The original song to which the Star Spangled Banner is set was an English drinking song about sex and alcohol, couched in flowery language. It was purposely had to sing, both in lyrics and music, because it was funnier for the drunks doing it that way.

I find it amusingly appropriate that our national anthem is about fireworks and based on a song about sex and alcohol, because when combine the latter two you often get the former.

I know the original lyrics, and have been known to sing it when other people are doing the anthem. I get very strange looks. I say "What? I'm old school, that's the way I learned it".

I forgot who said it but some commentator pointed out that all of this is over an event that most people (the tv audience) watch seated at.

Not even. Unless it's a high-profile game (playoffs) with a high-profile anthem singer networks cut away to a commercial break. In a way that is honoring what America really stands for - who's paying who.

I always heard the original drinking song was hard as a test to know when someone has had enough to drink.
