I had to check other sites because that seemed such an obvious parody. Uh.

Please remember that Republicans are always fiscally conservative except when it comes to pushing issues that are completely made up in an attempt to turn their storytelling into facts.

Which is the essentially the same as never.

How ironic. Most of these same dimwits scream bloody murder when the possibility of federal background checks is raised for gun purchases. Now this committee wants to use the same system to verify voter eligibility?

Fascists. One and all.

It's going to be interesting political debate times if it ever becomes easier to buy a gun than it is to vote. I'm assuming they have either not thought that far ahead, or are assuming most of the crazies will be on their side.

Sadly, this does not surprise me at all. It is just one more step to use prison system to create a second class of citizens, mostly black, that are becoming the "niggers" of modern society. Sorry if the word offends you, but it applies and it is true.

For years now, we have been denying poor people, mostly minorities but mainly just poor people, a due process in court, forcing them into plea deals no decent lawyer would ever allow a client to accept, putting more and more people in prison for more minor offenses. Once they have paid their debt to society and are released. They are typically provided obstacles designed to trip them up and get them back in the system. If they manage to navigate that, we then relegate them to a secondary social class. With background checks going back 7 years or more limiting them from renting an apartment, buying a car, working at even the most menial levels of employment(fast food, janitorial, etc)..all of which use background checks to knock out employees or possible customers for fear of liability.

Wouldn't denying this new bottom class the right to vote just be the natural next step?

Luckily I don't think the supreme court, not even the conservative wing, would let this one fly.

It's important not to become numb/cynical to atrocity.

Insanity can become the normal. Don't let it.
