Search for Reddit's 'Red Pill' creator leads to NH State Rep

The Republican Lawmaker Who Secretly Created Reddit's Woman-Hating 'Red Pill'
Quote:
The homegrown son of a preacher, 31-year-old Robert Fisher is a Republican who represents New Hampshire’s Belknap County District 9. [...]

An investigation into Fisher’s online aliases found a trail of posts linking the lawmaker to the username Pk_atheist, the creator of The Red Pill [...]

A post by Pk_atheist in the early days of the forum advertises the author’s blog, Dating American, [...] On the “about the author” section of Dating American, the author, who calls himself “Desmond,” promotes two other blogs he’s “authored”: Existential Vortex and Explain God. Performing a search of the unique URL for Existential Vortex led to a comment on an ex-Christian message board again advertising the blog, existentialvortex.blogspot.com. This post, written under the alias “Interested,” provided the keystone that connected Pk_atheist and Robert Fisher. First, the post revealed the user was the author of Existential Vortex (and thus, Dating American). Second, in the user’s bio, he stated his band—The Five Nines—had a new album out. Robert Fisher is the sole member of his band, The Five Nines.
[...]
Within hours of contacting Rep. Fisher, and after delivering by email a summary of his apparent connections to The Red Pill kingpin, his two primary Reddit usernames had been wiped, and four blogs connected to him were deleted or made private. He has not returned additional requests for comment.

*sigh* I remember the good old days when being a militant atheist meant you laughed at Ray Comfort and took the piss out of crazy Bible quotes.

So fucking disappointing how many in the atheist community have drunk the MRA Kool-Aid, and how many have regressed even further than that into the alt-right.

I was never an atheist, but I "ran" in some of the same internet circles. When I was younger the whole skeptic thing was a big part of my identity - I was on all the forums, and looking forward to going to the conferences someday and all that. It ended for me a few years ago when many of the "celebrities", great minds I supported and respected, just lost it en masse and went on this great big protracted monkey-shriek about "SJWs" and "feminazis". I walked away and never looked back because bleep that, flat out. I don't even keep in touch with the friends I made around that time anymore.

Yeah, it's fucking embarrassing. And it just seemed to explode overnight. One minute I was like "Whoah, did I miss some drama or something?" the next I was mass-unsubscribing from content creators I used to admire in absolute disgust.

The only part I didn't see coming was the part about him being a NH Rep. I figured he would have been from the south, somewhere.

For large parts of NH, it's about the same thing.

Yeah but there is still a world of difference between New England and the South.

The two biggest newspapers in NH, The NH (I thought it was Manchester) Union Leader and the Laconia Daily Sun have the story on their web front pages, so many people in NH will hear about this.

We need Kara to check in on this. Or is she from Vermont? No, I'm almost positive it's New Hampshire where her finger is constantly on the pulse of that state's political moves (with one hand: the other hand is of course doing the same with our national government in DC).

So, it doesn't justify anything. but according to some Reddit posts, NH has a funny legislature where each legislator represents some ridiculously small number of people. It also rarely meets and most if not all of the members have normal regular jobs that they do most of the time.

Basically, while this is still most definitely awful, it's not like this guy is you "typical congress person", state or national.

When I first saw that he was a politician from New Hampshire, I legit thought he was the independent politician from NH that stalked me in SL, on SC and here for like two years.

They changed it to New Hampshire a dozen years ago to improve sales by fooling the rest of the state to buy a copy (it didn't really work).

Hi, have been at drupalcon in Baltimore this week so am a bit slow. Before reading the article though I would first point out NH has the largest (or one of the largest) state legislatures so it is pretty varied. For example, my home town of around 2,000 had a state rep. Sometimes it is someone actually representative of the town, sometimes it is someone they just do not want around as much and electing them to go to Concord is a good way to do it.

NH papers are a bit odd. I would like to get my old one online to keep up with local news (the national news is mostly AP reports). It is only a few pages long and costs about as much as the Washington Post. So much for that idea.

When I went to college the local rag was the Foster's Daily Democrat. I never did read them to see their leanings, but it is a liberalish smaller area in a conservativish bigger area (solid blue and solid red do not really apply to NH).
