All right, if you're all going to be flying fingers, it's time for a refresher.

That looks like an "I was just kidding" flounce! Only 5 points, but we do what we can.

I ran across this today: https://www.wsj.com/articles/airline...ers-1492769092

While reading it I realized that the very best way to bite this shit in the ass is for public companies to require their executives to fly in economy just like the rest of their employees. Let me tell you, economy would change FAST!

I hear you, Rose. I hear you. The last year or so I worked for a certain organisation, they introduced austerity measures and WOW the Directors had to fly economy, even on long trips.

They arrived all "GOD THIS IS HARD" and "POOR US". And got pretty much no sympathy from those of us who had been in economy for years.

Once upon a time, even we the grunts got business class if the flight was more than 6 or 8 hours (I forget). The difference in how we functioned on arrival was pretty damned obvious, once they decided that this was All Too Expensive.

The upshot was, however, that the Directors did Woe Is Us to the powers that be, and hey presto, they were allowed back in the comfy seats. Didn't see them campaigning too hard on behalf of we who were not.

So I'm not sure even your idea is a solution. I wish, though!

Boeing used to require all employees to fly coach on business travel, even executives. That way they could experience the product the way passengers did, including the competition. Just because they worked for Boeing didn't mean they always flew on Boeing planes, that depended on the destination and what the airlines used for the route.

I refer to this as "the good old days". Once Boeing hired a CEO that was just an executive, and not an airplane guy, he got his own corporate jet (a Boeing, of course), and they lost touch with the reality of airline travel.

The airlines tend to do what they want with seating, don't they? Seems kind of mean to make Boeing people suffer for their customers' tight wallets.

Yes. The reaction of American versus United shows why United Airlines are just pure scum. Even though this incident pales in comparison to the United assault, American was quick to apologize and react, whereas United just blamed the passenger.

Neither side showed a whole lot of common sense in this situation.

Was looking through some old airline stuff, and I saw this old United ad, and I had to laugh at the fact that what happens at the end of it was obviously considered cute and acceptable in 1978. In the modern era, like nooooooo....

By the way, speaking of old airline stuff....while looking at some American planes, it just now occurred to me how much better American's current livery looks:

...compared to the fantastically lazy one they had like in the 90's/early 00's?

Sheesh...just drag a couple paint brushes down the side of the otherwise-unpainted plane and call it a day? I guess it was certainly distinctive, and might've even looked great on day one if the aluminum was all mirror-polished. But there was no way it could be maintained. Buncha planes looking like the world's grubbiest-fingerprint-smudged iPhone screens.

See.. there's the thing. The gate was supposed to deal with it. In the same way as they take your wheelchair and pop you in the narrow aisle chair when you board.

The woman had enough to deal with having 2 babies. The airline staff should have done their job and dealt with it appropriately at the gate.
