KING: The Democratic Party doesn't get why it's so unpopular - NY Daily News

Quote:
Recently, Ive asked the crowds where I am speaking two key questions about the Democratic Party. The response that I get is always the same mass laughter or audible frustration.
The first question is, If I asked you, in just a few sentences, to sum up what specific policies the Democratic Party stands for, what would you say?

The other question is, What exactly is the strategy of the Democratic Party to take back the government from conservatives across the country?
That one always gets the most laughs.

So unpopular that Clinton won the popular vote and that the GOP needed voter suppression, gerrymandering, DNC infighting, and Russia to win.

Nope.

Bernie didn't get the votes that he needed. The DNC adopted super-delegates just for this reason-- to prevent outsiders from getting the nomination. Bernie, while I was a supporter, was the obvious outsider, and had been an independent for many years. That said, I would have preferred him to Clinton but I believe that they would have both lost to Trump.

More importantly, the DNC and the RNC are NGOs, and are not bound by FEC rules. They can nominate anyone they wish to, which makes your rigging charge pretty sound fairly silly, non?

Right. The GOP "outsider" was obviously Trump, and the Republican primary process lacked the super-delegate protection to prevent a demented wannabe despot like him from taking the nomination. There's no guarantee that, lacking the super-delegate "rigging," the Democrats would have ended up with everybody's favourite Uncle Bernie; instead we too may have gotten some Trump-like monster, attracted by a more freewheeling process.

It's a goddamn shame it all turned out the way it did, but it's important not to "learn" the wrong lessons from the tragic results. Well, it will be important if the US holds elections again; otherwise... well, other lessons will be needed to re-establish the republic.

As Trump destroys the R party in not-so-slow-motion, those same Rs are no doubt thinking super-delegates? Why didn't we think of that?

B- You do realize the Ds are unpopular because they were willing to act like Rs on a lot of things, right?

The FEC has nothing to do with my post, so let's stick to the elements of your reply that are not attempts at deflection.

I am less convinced than you with regard to the outcome had the general been a Trump v. Bernie race. I think Bernie is a vastly more honest liberal (or progressive) than Hillary. Pretty sure he didn't have any feelings of entitlement to being the 45th POTUS and probably would have spent more time campaigning to get his message out to the public at large than Hillary did.

Like it or not, Trump campaigned his ass off. While Hillary was sleeping and fundraising Trump was all over.

I think Bernie would have campaigned for the office much harder than Hillary did and would have expended more time, energy and campaign money on issues than 'I am not Trump'.

Just as you accurately say "Bernie didn't get the votes that he needed" (in the primary), Hillary didn't get the votes she needed (in the general).

You have to be one of the most reality challenged people I have ever run across. Counting up to 3 isn't that difficult for most adults and the concept of how days and months follow one another isn't much harder.

This thread OP links to an article published on March 9, 2017 that was prompted by a poll that was 'just released'. (An article, by the way, if you read... I imagine you would largely agree with.)

Losing is hard. It sucks. I hate losing. But this much I know if the Democratic Party does not come to grips with why it is so wildly unpopular, many more losses will be on the horizon.
