That would be the Republican take on just about every subject, "Why should we pay for anything we don't personally benefit from?" Though, I would point out that prospective fathers should rather care about their unborn child's health, but then Rethugs only seem to care that the child gets born, not it's condition, either in utero, nor once it is born, because I'll say it again, they only care about controlling those pesky, uppity women.
Well, and with no proper care, more women (than already do) will die in child birth, thus reducing the fact we're half the population. We already have a stupidly high rate for a supposedly civilized nation.

He clearly doesn't understand how health insurance works.

Obviously everyone is not at equal risk of needing any particular kind of medical treatment. Men don't need prenatal care, or for gynecological problems, and women don't need treatment for testicular or prostate cancer, or erectile dysfunction, and are far less likely to need treatment for heart disease and high blood pressure than are men.

The way insurance works is by sharing all the risks equally, so that everyone ends up with affordable cover. Individual policy holders subsidise people who are at a higher risk of needing a particular form of treatment than are they, and are subsidised by those who are at a lower risk of something that they're at a higher risk of needing.

Everyone subsidises everyone else, in other words, and thus the product is more or less affordable for everyone, since the various high risks are shared out between far more people than will ever need them.

If you start taking people out of the pool -- offering men a lower premium because they don't need pre-natal cover, and offering women a lower premium because they're at lower risk of heart disease and strokes -- then you increase the premiums for the people remaining in the pool and rapidly end up with a far more expensive product.

See Why Should a Childless Man Have to Buy Maternity Coverage - Consumer Reports News for a fuller and better explanation.

The USA already has one of the highest infant mortality rates of any industrialised country -- 5.87/1000 live births, as compared with 4.65 in Canada, 4.37 in Australia, and an EU average of 4.0. Seems to me that legislators should be trying to improve things, not make them worse.

New Health Care Bill: Where Does My Member Of Congress Stand? : NPR

At the bottom, there's a 'filter by State' that will be updated once the info is available.

Quote:
Our reporting finds that lawmakers' responses fall into four categories. Most Republicans on the record support the bill, but a large group of the most conservative members are vehemently opposed to the legislation, arguing that it's not a sufficient repeal of Obamacare. A smaller group of Republicans, primarily in the Senate, are concerned that bill will result in many residents of their states losing coverage via Medicaid.

While Democrats are almost universally opposed, a small group of Democrats in districts won by Trump last November have struck a more equivocal tone.

And that description, coincidentally enough, pretty closely matches the one given recently of Canada's Healthcare system on the radio. I heard it driving home on CBS national news, but the columnist actually works for a station in Seattle. He quotes a Canadian CONSERVATIVE, who explains how Canada's plan has increased productivitythe workforce is healthierand has reduced government's healthcare expenditurespeople in general are healthier and thus require fewer expensive interventionsso in general it's a win all the way. I could not find a link to the text of the column but I did find KIRO's (the station Ross works for) link to the audio. You'll need to download and install an iTunes app if you don't already have one. It's the one from 3/10/17: "The American Dream Moves North".

Under this bill, I see a rush of poor and working poor suddenly becoming too ill to work so they can afford to be counted in the new 'Medicaid' group. Food Stamps user numbers will go up, WIC's will go up, TANIF will go up, Medicaid will go up....as well as fraud and criminality becoming a 'normality' in order to sustain basic living needs....YAY ! LET'S SEE HOW YOU LIKE COMING OUTSIDE YOUR HOMES AFTER ALL THAT COMES TO PASS....grumble, grumble...fecking idiots...grumble, grumble...now where did that guy say his mom and dad had retired too?....grumble, grumble....where the hell do you get a guillotine blade?.......grumble, grumble...

Those folks can get the credit in the form of a refund. Obviously, they still have to file a return to get -- which fact, I'm sure, the Fascist Party is hoping will discourage those unworthies.

Trump healthcare plan 'will strip insurance from 14 million'

"An estimated 14 million people would lose insurance coverage in 2018 under the new Republican healthcare plan, according to a budget analysis.

The long-awaited Republican plan was assessed by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), a nonpartisan group of budget analysts and economists.

The CBO said the added number uninsured would rise to 24 million by 2026."

I shit you not: There was a chick in some townhall, who was interviewed on KCBS and she said, "I shouldn't have to pay for other people's health care, like with ObamaCare. If you can't get your own health care, then you're just lazy people."

Lazy. People.

Let me repeat this. LAZY. PEOPLE.

LAZY PEOPLE.

Paul Ryan ‘Encouraged’ By Report That Says Millions Would Lose Insurance Under GOP Plan

Quote:
House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said Monday that he is “encouraged” by an analysis from the Congressional Budget Office that found the Republican health care proposal would result in 24 million more uninsured Americans by 2026.
The White House's own numbers are actually worse than the CBO, but they are not telling that to anyone.

White House analysis of Obamacare repeal sees even deeper insurance losses than CBO

Quote:
A White House analysis of the GOP plan to repeal and replace Obamacare shows even steeper coverage losses than the projections by the Congressional Budget Office, according to a document viewed by POLITICO on Monday.

The executive branch analysis forecast that 26 million people would lose coverage over the next decade, versus the 24 million CBO estimates. The White House has made efforts to discredit the forecasts from the nonpartisan CBO.
Sanders: 'Thousands of Americans will die' because of GOP Obamacare repeal bill

Why are the rest of the democratic leaders not standing front and center with this message; This bill will KILL people. (Ironically it will be a lot of the same people that voted for Trump, so there is that)

A cynic would say those two sentences, in juxtaposition, are your answer.

But really. Kill off your base, that is just brilliant politics, Republicans. And they say Democrats don't have a clue.

Also: Health Bill Would Add 24 Million Uninsured but Save $337 Billion, Report Say
Quote:
WASHINGTON — The House Republican plan to replace the Affordable Care Act would increase the number of people without health insurance by 24 million by 2026, while slicing $337 billion off federal budget deficits over that time, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said Monday.
[...]
The much-anticipated judgment by Capitol Hill’s official scorekeeper did not back up President Trump’s promise of providing health care for everyone and was likely to fuel the concerns of moderate Republicans. Next year, it said, the number of uninsured Americans would be 14 million higher than expected under current law.
But it also provided talking points for House Republican leaders who need the support of rebellious conservatives to pass the measure: lower deficits, reduced federal spending and tax cuts.

[...]

What's 24 million poor people becoming uninsured against $337 billion less federal budget deficit?

I honestly think that there are many people who have no clue how it all works. These are the same ones who will be absolutely flabbergasted when their own premiums either go up to where they can't pay them, or they are completely cut off. Then they'll stand around asking why, and looking for someone else to blame. Idiots!!!

I swear there needs to be a civics test before allowing people to vote.

Trump helped write Obamacare replacement bill, Speaker Ryan says

I find it hard to believe that Trump has the ability to help write any piece of legislature, so either Bannon helped, or Trump just gave specific ideas.

Either way, let him own it.
