Don’t Call Trumpcare ‘Dead On Arrival.’ Nobody Meant It To Live.

Quote:
Something has to be alive before it can be declared dead.

But if we go with the idea that President Donald Trump and his circle know what they’re doing, then this is meant to be a Zombie Plan.

They’ve put forth a bare-bones proposal to provide cover for Republicans eager to “abolish Obamacare” now, but wary of being accused in the next election of weakening or eliminating health care coverage. In this scenario, the GOP will use the greased-skids procedure of reconciliation to abolish what they despise about Obamacare ― taxes and mandates ― while vowing to support some living, fleshed-out version of the new proposal later this year or next.

There is a perhaps fatal flaw in such a strategy: the new proposal’s almost total disconnect from substantive and political reality.

Last I checked a top end iPhone would pay for two months for me. Assuming a plan that would actually be useful. For a catastrophic plan with a 5,500$ deductible it'd cover about 5 months.

Remember the Mercedes showing up at the unemployment office kerfuffle, from a few years back?

So, the owner had paid off the car before they lost their job, and yeh they could sell it for a few thousands maybe... it wasn't a new one, just well taken care of... but they'd have to spend most of that on a new car and they'd end up with a car that cost them more in maintenance and probably gas as well.

I'd like to give Paul Ryan and company an "act of mercy". We will give them an iphone and a disease, while taking away their health insurance and the money to pay for it, including all assets. After all, we all pay for THEIR health insurance, while they deny it to us. We'll see how they fare.

It doesn't have to be a deadly disease, lest anyone think I'm wishing ill health on the vultures, just a costly one.

There will go support from a lot of states with R congresscritters. Opioids are not just a "city drug".

Doubtful. If they don't care at all about people who are sick at all, they sure as hell aren't going to care about addicts, who would fall under their category of "people who deserve what they get".

AMA opposes GOP medical plan.

Quote:
The American Medical Association just announced that it “cannot support” the Republican bill to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

The AMA announced its opposition in a letter Wednesday morning, hours before two House committees were set to mark up repeal legislation. It comes one day after a slew of patient advocacy and health industry groups including the American Hospital Association announced they were against the House GOP bill ― and it’s one more sign of political trouble for the Republican repeal effort.

“While we agree that there are problems with the ACA that must be addressed, we cannot support the AHCA as drafted because of the expected decline in health insurance coverage and the potential harm it would cause to vulnerable patient populations,” AMA chief executive James Madara said in the letter.
When you have the lobby groups from both the nation's hospitals and the nation's doctors against the bill, I would say its chance of moving anywhere as written are slim and none.

Imho, a true "World's Greatest Healthcare Plan" would be a tax-paid single-payer universal healthcare system - which would mean that everyone on US-American soil were automatically insured, without former questioning about citizenship, preconditions, income or state of employment; with full coverage for medical treatment of all sorts, and full coverage for prescribed meds. But such a system would never pass a rethuglican House or Senate.

You do not know how politicians think then. If the people hooked are ex-cons and they are in a state that takes away their vote after being released from prison then, yes, they are invisible ..... but if they can vote for/against them the politician VERY MUCH CARES. Not only that, but they care about a huge constituency that wants a certain problem to be fixed (which you usually get in any state where this is a big problem).

They are in full sell mode on this piece of crap.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/polit...=.d767e881ac20

Quote:
One member of the House Republican whip team, who was among a group of lawmakers who visited with Trump on Tuesday and spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss tactics, said there is a shared understanding between the White House and House leaders that the bill as currently crafted represents the best chance to pass health-care legislation through the House — and for now, the White House and House GOP leaders are offering dissenters carrots, with the sticks to follow if needed.
So they are going to pass something, just what that is remains to be seen, but I can pretty much bank on it not being good for the average citizen.

Then they wonder why the Dem law is so much larger than the GOP plan? If the extreme left had their way it would be less than a page: medicare for everyone. When bills hit the floor they have a way of becoming MUCH larger though, either through having to appease people or adding caveats/clarifications to things that are said.

If you think things have turned around in Kansas now that Brownback has been put forth as a possible ambassador to the UN (Food and Agriculture) in Rome, think again. We grow these asshats from seed corn.

Poor ‘don’t want health care,’ Kansas congressman says, and backlash begins

Quote:
U.S. Rep. Roger Marshall said Wednesday that comments he made about the poor not wanting health care have been misinterpreted, and he pointed to his record as a physician in the face of a national backlash over his comments.

Marshall, a Great Bend obstetrician, was elected to the U.S. House last year after ousting former U.S. Rep. Tim Huelskamp in the Republican primary for Kansas’ 1st Congressional District, which covers the western half of the state.

The health care website Stat highlighted Marshall’s role in Republican efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act in a profile published last week. Marshall’s comments about the poor in that article have gained national attention.

“Just like Jesus said, ‘The poor will always be with us.’ … There is a group of people that just don’t want health care and aren’t going to take care of themselves,” Marshall is quoted as saying when asked about Medicaid expansion, something that was made possible by the ACA.

We need a good, old fashioned plague. Rich people don't care about healthcare for the poor until the poor's poor health threatens their good health.

‘Is that not correct?’: Male GOP lawmaker asks why men should pay for prenatal coverage

That would be the Republican take on just about every subject, "Why should we pay for anything we don't personally benefit from?" Though, I would point out that prospective fathers should rather care about their unborn child's health, but then Rethugs only seem to care that the child gets born, not it's condition, either in utero, nor once it is born, because I'll say it again, they only care about controlling those pesky, uppity women.
