China sails warships near islands Mattis vowed to defend for Japan | Fox News

Quote:
The ships sailed within Japan’s territorial waters some 12 nautical miles off the islands in the East China Sea, roughly 140 miles northeast of Taiwan, a U.S. defense official told Fox News.

Senate Dems have the floor right now on DeVos. The vote is no later than noon tomorrow. If you're on Facebook, you can comment on the feed with your opinion on her confirmation.

Speaking to the U.S. Central Command on Monday, President Trump went off his prepared remarks to make a truly stunning claim: The media was intentionally covering up reports of terrorist attacks.

Truman and Trump have a lot in common.

For example, Truman also appointed a bunch of people his cabinet who weren't competent. Almost all were his besties. A few of his advisers were seen as huge jokes, sort of like that Spicer guy Melissa McCarthy is rather good at impersonating.

That aside, Trump (unlike Truman) apparently doesn't bother to read any of the briefings and reports he's handed. So it's no surprise that he has no clue what's going on. He is prone to a lot of heavy exaggeration and outright lies, but even when you use his own words on Twitter to talk to his die hard supporters, they will scream "Ermagherd, that's the media lying about him again."

They won't accept that you are using HIS OWN WORDS against him in an argument.

At this point I'm done. There's no convincing the Stupid out there.

I've simply decided to save myself a little sanity and stop opining on things that get posted to Failbook. I normally have low blood pressure, but there are times it skyrockets just looking at the first few posts of the day there.

The true swamp isn't in Washington, it's on Facebook and Youtube comments.

Spicer is right. That's not a bathrobe Trump wears around the White House.

This French journalist discusses with a Trump supporter about the banned countries. She starts by saying that the refugees are going to kill people, then she talks about the 9/11.

I bet Spicer's days are already numbered.

Trump will replace him soon simply to turn off the hilarious portayals of him on SNL.

And then he'll brag on Twitter about how he cost Melissa McCarthy a job.

Gee, thanks, I was already trying to get the image of Donnie walking around the WH naked out of my brain.

I think the whole second half of the thread title needs a spoiler tag myself although I doubt bbcode will work there.

The frustrating thing is they have just as much of a vote as people who examine all the candidates thoroughly, examine their records (politics preferably, but at least for their prior career), and run actual numbers on their proposals.

I was about to say 'same number of people' but because of the electoral college it is not even that.

I am calling it here first. When Alec Baldwin hosts next week if a woman does not play Donny in the open one will somewhere else in the show.

Make sure your bolt-hole is stocked up anyone near NYC. There is a 50/50 chance he will launch a nuclear missile at their studio and/or go to war with some random country after that happens.

I wonder if they've asked Meryl Streep, who did a pretty good job? Now that would really get Smallhand Donny upset.

Ordinary Americans carried out inhumane acts for Trump - Baltimore Sun

Quote:
The men and women who reportedly handcuffed small children and the elderly, separated a child from his mother and held others without food for 20 hours, are undoubtedly "ordinary" people. What I mean by that, is that these are, in normal circumstances, people who likely treat their neighbors and co-workers with kindness and do not intentionally seek to harm others. That is chilling, as it is a reminder that authoritarians have no trouble finding the people they need to carry out their acts of cruelty. They do not need special monsters; they can issue orders to otherwise unexceptional people who will carry them out dutifully.

This should not be a surprise. The famous Milgram experiment and subsequent studies suggest that many people will obey instructions from an authority figure, even if it means harming another person. It is also perfectly understandable (which does not mean it is justifiable). How many of us would refuse to follow an instruction from a superior at work? It is natural to want to keep one's job, even if at the price of inflicting cruelty on another human being, even perhaps a child.

They carry more of a vote if they live in a rural state. Just think; if she lived in Utah, her vote would be worth 7 times as much as a person from California.

The GOP has cultivated that fact very carefully, with an appeal to country vs city, uneducated vs. educated. That is what their claims of elitism are all about. Remember how they passed off Reagan as a down home fatherly type, passed off Bush Jr as a simple country boy, and now passed off Trump as a man of the people. Actually, Trump did that on his own. In all of those cases, nothing could be further from the truth. In all three cases they pushed agendas that redistribute wealth from the poor to the wealthy.

Yet these fools keep voting for them.

Yes, the electoral college is more an appendix than a functional organ ... especially now that it has been perverted so much. The ONLY reason we have it is because the founding fathers were overly concerned about the less populated states (why? less people should mean less representation) so messed up the other ones. This at a time when not everyone could vote that does today (and DC did not get a presidential vote until the 50s).

If I lived in the rural town where I grew up I would find it completely fair that our town had less of a say in the election than, oh, San Fransisco. So why it was decreed people in bigger places should have less of a say to fix that 'problem' is completely befuddling.
