That's a shame. I would have signed it. There's enough lechery in the world; we don't need it glorified in video games as well.

That's horrific. Police had been in a "standoff" situation with him all day long, trying to contact him and receiving no response. I guess he and the hostages had been dead that whole time.

Police in Austin, Texas are warning residents to call 911 if they receive or find any unexpected packages at their homes, after two explosions in different areas of the city today killed one person and injured some others. Investigators at the scene of the first reported explosion have found evidence they believe links it to another explosion that occurred on March 3rd which also killed a man.

The explosives evidently were inside packages that the victims found on their porches. All of the victims (so far) African American, so a possible racial angle is being looked at although not certain.

Austin used to be fairly liberal. Sad to see such a beautiful place destroyed by conservative repugs.

Terrorism, but they won't call it that. If it turns out to be some white dude, they'll say he was a mentally ill loner. They certainly won't tie it to the increase in white supremacist violence.

If it turns out to be someone that is not white, they will practically piss themselves to paint them as a violent liberal attempting to create "fake" hate crimes. Won't matter if they are or not or their motivation.

Well it seems that as well as killing one dissident with polonium and the nerve agent attack just the other day, there are 14 other suspected Russian assassinations in the UK.

It seems that our government, most specifically Theresa May who was either Home Secretary or PM at the time, have been too scared to actually investigate them.

But russian TV is happy to boast about them at the same time as the russian goverment pours scorn on accusations against it.

Another Russian exile in the UK dies suddenly, though this isn't anywhere near as suspicious as some of the other cases.

Quote:
A Russian exile who was close friends with the late oligarch Boris Berezovsky has been found dead in his London home, according to friends.

Nikolai Glushkov was discovered by his family and friends late on Monday night, aged 68. The cause of death is not yet clear. One of his friends, the newspaper editor Damian Kudryavtsev, posted the news on his Facebook page.

Without confirming the man’s name, the Metropolitan police said the counter-terrorism command unit was leading the investigation into the death “as a precaution because of associations that the man is believed to have had”.

It said there was no evidence at present to suggest a link to the incident in Salisbury, where Sergei and Yulia Skripal remain in a critical condition.

Facebook bans Britain First pages - BBC News

These are the far-right group whose anti-Muslim videos #45 caused a bit of a ruckus by retweeting last November.

Quote:
Facebook has removed the pages of the anti-Islamic group Britain First and its leaders.

The social media company said the group had repeatedly violated its community standards.

Earlier this month, Britain First's leader and deputy leader, Paul Golding and Jayda Fransen, were jailed after being found guilty of religiously aggravated harassment.

[....]

Facebook says the decision to remove the pages was made after Britain First had ignored a final warning about the posting of material that broke its community standards.

The group will not be allowed to set up a replacement page.

[....]

In a blogpost, Facebook said it was an open platform for all ideas but that political views should be expressed without hate.

"People can express robust and controversial opinions without needing to denigrate others on the basis of who they are."

This is why so many old people can seemingly accept death easily. They just can't take the stupid any more and welcome the relief.

I wonder how long I'll be able to hold out.

A secret recording given to the local press has captured the head of maintenance for the Nashville Metro school district discussing a plan with undisclosed team members to sabotage filtered water-bottle filling stations that have been installed in some schools, by bypassing the filters and removing indicator lights in the machines that show when the filter is bad and needs to be changed. The filtered bottle-filling stations were purchased with funds raised by district parents after a report last year revealed elevated and unsafe lead levels in some schools' water.

The maintenance director is opposed to the bottle-filling stations and planned to bypass the filtration systems in them because he believed the filters were expensive and maintenance was a hassle. He insists the water is safe and believes the test results showing high lead levels were erroneous.

I am not saying its a good idea, but my experience with essentially anything with a filter is the things expire on a timer, and not in any relation to how used or not used the filter is.

And yeah, they tend to be super over priced to replace.

Maybe if the government spent its money more responsibly there wouldn't be a concern about the cost though.

True, but it's because that's one of the only objective methods of judging the life of something like a drinking water filter without disturbing it and potentially releasing captured contaminants. If people weren't given a regular cue and hard-and-fast instruction, some filters would never be changed.

For example, remember that you should replace the batteries in your home smoke detectors at least once a year. Not "check the batteries to see if they're still good" - replace them, period.
